Sentry tower: How to open second door with cog puzzle ???

On the next to last floor there is a giant block surrounded by a cage of bells. On that floor there is a cog puzzle and a locked gate. I *think* i solved the cog puzzle as i hear a gate opening but the gate remains closed. Anyone figure out how to open it ?

You have to finish with it in the center of the ring. The door is on the right side past the gate. The gate will open when you finish the cogwheel correctly. I was confused too..

The door on the left did open and i went up stairs but there is still visible stuff behind the gate that i can't reach.

You did not finish doing the cog puzzle. I'm sorry I don't remember how exactly it looks, but there's a candle in there and loot they drop which was decent. To save you some time place the candle on the stone that has the tall spire once you beat the boss. I don't think you need to place the rest, not at that time at least. Maybe later you have to go back.

I did the candle puzzle and got the spear; this is sitll on the floor below with the cog and gate.

Right, I'm just telling you what ya missed in that room. There might be a bug on that puzzle when it sounds like the door opens, but it will actually open if you solve it correctly.

So you are saying i have to do something on the top floor to open the door on the floor below ?

red cog is spinning if im not misstaken, it shouldnt.

looking at mine in the tower atm ur nearly correct but u need to stop the red cog from spinning.

Ok so i'm a moron. I think i got confused by the sound of the gate opening but it didn't. It got me a 7th candle but i didn't seem to get anything from it. I had already gotten the spear and using it didn't seem to open more loot.

There is a point (fairly late in the game) that tells you The Red Cog spinning means that traps are activated, the Gold Inscribed Cog opens Doors, but to 'Complete' the puzzle you need to get the Golds spinning, with the Red stationary.
