Levelling and grinding?
I've seen some coverage of the game, but no one has seemed to mention or show this off. Are you able to refight, or grind, for levels in this game or are you forced to a certain level determined by where you are in the game due to the amount of enemies on offer?

As far as I know, enemies do not re-spawn - so, once you clear them, they are gone.

The game does allow you to fight tougher enemies early - ie deadly ones - but you are meant to go back to them as you get more powerful and get a bigger party.

So, I don't think there is scaling as such - deadly enemies can be around a corner right from the beginning - you just fight them at a later point.

There are no respawning enemies but the main quest is linear, so you can take on side quests or explore the area for wandering enemies to grind as much as you can.

Technically you can also get infinite xp by reloading a save, consuming a save totem and loading back but if you have the time for that, I'd say more power to you.

Yeah, that was my guess too sadly, everone went forward but never back to check. I like grinding and getting my team fully geared for a fight rather than going along a set path.

I guess I'll be doing plenty of exploration and side questing if and when I get the game. Though it does put the question in my head, will I be able to craft better food and buy all the best equipment if I can't grind for the materials and money.

I haven't tested it but one of the rogue archetypes has a chance of stealing everything you just bought, so you get it free. Save scumming could give you unlimited wealth once you have that. Even if the game saves the RNG you can just test, buy cheap crap a few times and then go for the big haul when you know it's going to succeed.

You can "grind" the save stones as these respawn for some reason (unless it was changed/fixed, but didn't see anything in the patchnotes and yesterday it was still working)

That's locked behind the second "chain" though. So you already have finished a significant portion of the game till then. I am not sure how much impact this would actually have on gameplay.
Personally I don't like mechanics like these though, even though it is "oldschool".
Being a Card Sharper in Realms of Arkania wasn't that enjoyable either.

You get more XP than needed. When you do all side-quests and explore properly, you will be always ahead of your enemies. No need for classical grinding.
And you don't need much money either. I have not thise stealing perk and on 10k gold. There is a VERY limited offering of itmes, and you get 70% of your gear from loot. Only in the beginning you can't buy anything you want.
Just ply the game and you will be fine.

Not only that. There is apparently a level cap at 20.

My guys are level 20 right now and get still XP. Can tell tomorrow if there is a level cap, right now i think not.

20 is definitely not the level cap.

My characters are level 24, and still gaining xp.

(GoG player, before anyone comments on the lack of mouse icon)

Is that much higher than the story enemies?
