Getting Started
Greetings Fellow Conductors!

Welcome to Trainscape. Here are some tips to get you started and some notes on how to access advanced features.

Starting Inventory
You start the game with a Starter Kit that contains 30+ items for you to build a fun layout: trains, buildings, props, and more. Though your inventory is not yet visible in your Steam profile, we plan to open it up soon. We also have soon-ish plans to make items marketable. In terms of getting new items, we will send out Gift Boxes when we create new assets.

Toolbox
Features in Trainscape are based on the tool you hold. 3 tools are currently available, and you can switch between them by simply open up the toolbox and touch a new tool to continue. Twist your hand so the underside of the controller is facing your other hand, then the toolbox will slide open. Twist the other way to put the toolbox away.

Tools:
  • Mr Claw: Pickup and place objects
  • Track Gun: Build fancy layouts
  • God-mote: (open to better names) Turn objects on/off & teleport onto table

Building Tracks
There is no limit on how long of a track you can build or how many tracks you can build. The Track Gun will create and snap to guides and make the process super easy.

Tips:
  • Avoid starting the track in the corner or too close to the edge, you may not be able to build segments that can circle back to complete the loop!
  • When building a curve track, swipe on the D-Pad to change its radius
  • When building tracks far away from you, teleport closer for a better view (Hold grip buttons on your non-tool controller)
  • Pull trigger to confirm placement of a segment; Pull, hold, and lift up to change the "grade", which is another way of saying elevation
  • If the angle of your recently placed segment is within 90-degree of an open ended segment, the auto-close algorithm will kick-in and see if it can help; if conditions are there, then you can select a valid open end to automatically close the loop
  • To turn off snapping and have more finite control over radius and grades, hold the trigger on your non-tool controller; this will be referred to as the ALT KEY
  • Merging & branching are not currently supported

Placing Objects
Use Mr. Claw to pickup and place (throw) objects onto the table.

Tips:
  • Tilt your non-tool hand toward you to bring up the inventory spiral; tilt away to hide
  • While the spiral is visible, dial on the non-tool D-Pad to cycle through it
  • While the spiral is visible, pull the trigger to switch category
  • While holding an object, swipe on the D-Pad to rotate it
  • Objects will always land on their feet like cats, but you can disable that with the ALT KEY (hold non-tool hand's trigger)
  • Trains will snap to nearby tracks; if the highlight is green, then it will couple with the train car next to it
  • While hold a character or an animal, use D-Pad left/right buttons to pick a pose
  • If you ever drop something on the floor, it will return to your spiral in ~5 seconds

Play!
God-mote controls locomotives and allow you to teleport onto the table

Tips:
  • Point at trains on the track, pull trigger to turn them on
  • Keep the laser on the locomotive, swipe on the D-Pad to change its power
  • After a train crash, point & pull trigger to reset it back to its previous position on the track
  • But if a train has been moved after a crash, point & pull trigger will return it to your inventory
  • Point the laser on the table top and an ant icon would appear, pull trigger to teleport onto the table
  • To return to the room scale, point the laser toward the sky and pull trigger
  • While on the table, Mr. Claw and Track Gun are not available

Other Stuff
Use the menu button on the non-tool hand to bring up the system menu. Use the laser on the tool to save, load, reset, and quit. The game auto-saves upon exit and auto-loads the latest progress at launch. Currently only a single save is available. You can preserve your previous saves by going to your Documents/Trainscape folder.

This looks great and a lot easier than another train app out there, however I'm not clear if we can "ride the train" or not. So many great VR components here, and being able to teleport to the table, but can we get a view from the train car/s? :)

Thank you for the suggestion. It is on our to-do list. Our main concern is motion sickness. We would just have to try it and fine-tune that experience. Is there anything else you would like to see?

I would love to see more trains ( modern and steam) of course but the ultimate would be mag lev possibly? i know there are tons of other things that should and will probably come first.

We have a little bit of work needed on that front. But hopefully we can have those become visible come Update 2!
