You have to set your auto-equip option to never and use beds to refresh the tavern.
Check the soda junkies at the tables as if you were going to hire them manually (not quick hire with ctrl click). Eventually you will find a soda junkie that is named Dinner Boy.
They look exactly the same as the base soda junkies so the only way to know if it's a dinner boy or not is to look at the name in the hire window.
