Total noob question about portals

When you go through a portal what do you loose and/or what do you keep? Do you loose all your gold? Do you retain the rare items? Does the tavern keep the upgrades from one dimension to another?

I realize that I'm probably over-thinking this as it is a casual game, yet I want to figure out how to prepare myself before going through the portal.

you lose the gold you lose every item you dont lose the tavern upgrades but you lose the soda upgrades this includes vip soda upgrades too

Thanks for the reply, this will help me decide when to go through the portal. And before going through I will sell the items that I still have.

When you can afford it, get the Magic Well ASAP. When you are ready to go to use the portal, talk to the wizard and then the merchant and choose purge. (If you don't talk to the wiz first, it will still be ???) Then go out and use the Magic Well. Every 5K will be converted into Essence, which will help upgrading your newest relic.

Thanks for the info, I will have to remember to do that. Wasn't sure why one would want to get the magic well, now I know.
