I have more fun this way. I tested 3 games, King, Enkomi & Lost Tomb. I tested a few other Scenarios that I have started & played with my choice of food without Lettuce.
What I found was hitting reset seems to revert to a default with 2 foods & at that point you are stuck with them.
So what you do is delete each city one at a time until they are all gone. Then scroll around
the map to ensure you got them all. Then go to Kingdom prices to check if you got it right.
You should see n/a price for all items instead of a number. Now you should be able to pick
what foods you want.
P.S my favorite starting template is Good Life as it is a huge map & seems to work well.
palaces then got message about needing better Gods something, don't remember what
but seemed I could not advance any further? Trying a new game now but really hate to spend that much time to find out I don't have the Gods setting right. Just trying to build the best city the game offers.
Any thoughts?
I've been playing this series since Caesar 2 & I do believe you need all 5 Gods to get the
more advanced homes like a palace. i always use 5 gods set to local deity & 1 temple
complex. What I haven't done was use the patron gods or more than 1 temple complex.
I am now trying all 5 set to patron with temple complexes.
BTW, you really want to keep your gods happy or they will take some goods, food & your
people. When this happens it takes awhile to recover. They give you stuff when they are happy! I have done the events, you can use them to bolster your kingdom rating & I can help with that if you want.
I know gods are useful in general, however I tend to massively overproduce everything and trade isn't enough to get my excess of off me. Then comes Ptah who multiplies stuff in my warehouses... you know where it goes. Ra is cool with the trade enhancement, but if trade is off I can usually manage my position myself. Seth in non-military missions is completely redundant if I recall correctly? I don't know how useful it would be to have Osiris in a meadow-based map, but I might give that a go. And Bast is always a patron god of mine, but truth be told, I've checked the houses and bazaars after her "houses and bazaars have an abundance of goods" boon, and... well... I don't see a difference? Lol
I'll be grateful if you could explain events to me. I wanted to create a famine-stricken country basically dependent on my city to cover their food needs but it flopped because I couldn't figure out how to set it up 😅
I also have one more question that I just remembered - even if I set up the trade routes via kingdom (seemingly) right, sometimes at least one city would show up blank in-game. I don't remember what I did to fix them (or if I just tossed them), but did you ever encounter that?
festival for the other gods? This helps keep them happy, less work for us! LoL
Setting up trade routes: I found funny things happen when I set up more than 17 routes,
from what you said to cities just becoming a distant city when game is started.
Seen routes change from sea to land or just not show at all, but still pay to open.
I won't go over 14 routes, seems like plenty & I have not seen any difference with more.
As for setting up events I need to go back & work it a little before I try to explain.
I've been away from these games for some years so I need some refreshing to do.
I will try to post something by tonight but give me a coupla days for more details.
Your proposed scenario sounds interesting & I think it should be doable.
You can set up request what food and how much time to answer with what amt of food you set. Describing how to set up events is gonna get a little involved. I would rather answer your questions directly as I believe once you see how it works you can run with it & have fun.
You have certainly given me an idea on how to obtain my needed goods to build monuments without having to devote so much time to getting one built! (so I'm gonna cheat a little)
