Windows 10 pro x64, 2560x1440, works fine with i7-6800k gpu AMD R9-290X and Nvidia GTX1070

I am being able to start the game in 1920x1080 resolution, but it always freezes after one or two minutes. I also tried the compatibility mode with diffrent options and even the compatibility wizzard with no result. I am not able to play the game in Windows 10 :(

Realize I'm 2,5 year late, but if you turn of the music it will run fine. You can still have all the city sound, ambient and so, just turn of the music. You can play the music of from youtube in the background. Only sometimes you get combat music when peacefull, or peacefull when in combat. But at least you can play the game, with the correct music most of the time. Pharo remaster is also coming soon, I assume they fixed the problem in that version.

Just downloaded. Tried the compatibility mode shift to no avail. Tried the download to the various cleopatra.7z files, still no success. Any other recommendations to make this game work in Windows 10?

It worked for me. Though the folder with my actual resolution didn't do the job. I used the file in the folder with the lowest resolution (1280_720), then increased the res once in-game..did the trick

Sometimes the game resolution has to be manually turned to 1280x720 in the settings.

Otherwise there are some options in the 'Guides' section at top of screen.

Regular freezes/crashes of the game are associated with a bug in the playback of sounds.
Especially strong when "Compatibility WindowsXP(sp2/sp3)"
Use "Compatibility Windows95/98"
Or update mss32.dll+Mp3dec.asi (from Zeus+Poseidon v2.1)

If the problem is still not fixed, then

Looping audio problem
When you have more than 2 speakers (2.1 or 5.1 or 7.1 sound)
Older games don't know what surround sound is.
Also, modern sound cards can work in surround sound emulation mode.
Download, unpack and copy-paste with replace to game folder.

Try v12 (EAX=ON) or v14 (EAX=OFF) or v15 (noX3DAudio)
This dsound.dll replaces the native one from DirectX, like a wrapper, reconciles the old with the new.
