As a certified Professional Idiot, I take offense to this.
Imagine being a new player. Imagine going through Guardian of Time, which can be pretty tedious, and then dying repeatedly to a boss because you couldn't find something you didn't know you were supposed to look for. THEN there's the matter of throwing the rods into Ugh-Zan's back, which you can't do when he's shooting at you, so you need to wait for him to pick a fight with the Dune worm, then know to pick up a rod and throw it on his back.
All the other bosses have been a matter of "Shoot this thing until it dies". Then suddenly you're introduce to TWO new mechanics - the jetpacks and the rods, without ANY explanation or hint.
Since the jetpack is now out in the open, maybe the cutscene could be altered so that Sam says something "Let's fly" or "Up up and away with your ugly ass" Hey I'm not a writer, just a suggestion .
Dunno how you could hint with the rods though. Maybe "Let's try some acupuncture" or something.
Some things are the game's fault, and some things are your own fault.
The really old FPS games were confusing as ♥♥♥♥, I'm glad we got over that actually. I'm sure any old-school FPS player will know the frustration of scouring the same level for over an hour, looking for a particular item or exit.
