Serious Sam 3 - limit FPS?
Hey guys, Im really enjoying Serious Sam 3 so far however my monitor is 100hz, thus I would like to run this game at 100fps instead of 90, 120, 144, like the game offers. I just don't really like screen tearing at all. Do you guys know how to limit FPS of your choosing?
Cheers

Open console(~) and check value of gfx_iMaxFPSActive parameter, it sets limit to fps when game is active. There are other values for when menu is active or game is in background.
If it's low, set it higher that your refresh rate. Default is 10000.

Also you may try switching window mode to borderless in graphics options.

Turning on v-sync caps your framerate to your refresh rate and is the only way to fully prevent screen tearing.

I'd recommend triple buffering to avoid performance issues in the event your framerate dips below your refresh rate.

I agree with you.

What I've seen is you can take some stress off the CPU and GPU the game plays more smoothly then trying to hit uber high FPS. If the CPU or GPU chokes it will fail. Trying to run the engine at max RPM is going to break.

The best tune is running the GPU hard but not max and same with the CPU.

FPS wise 60+ is the goal. I often turn stuff down to 60 fps cause no reason to run my system wide open all the time. NO gain.

It's like a car engine. You don't drive it WOT at max RPM all day right? Same thing.

Match the system up and no tearing happens.

It's not about FPS it's about smoothness. Either your GPU or CPU is not keeping up. Turn it down so it does.

If you are using a HDMI cable btw you will never see above 60fps even if it says on screen. What cable you using? Never versions can but just asking. It's not simple "I have this monitor" will compute from GPU to screen in actual.

To get the FPS that high it requires hardware and software done right.

In the end it does not matter! FPS maxing does not make you a master player or help you on-line or as single player.

Just my 2 cents.

Correction: Only way to prevent screen tearing UNLESS you have an g-sync (compatible) (or AMD freesync if you have an AMD graphics card) monitor.

Don't think so. Been fine for over 10 years without that stuff. That does work. But still. It's just basic system tuning. It's system control. Simple as that.

Over 800+ games and not one screen tears. None. Don't have that tech and is fine. It's per game tuning.
