Hilarious Name
As a German i can only guess what you were trying to achieve when you picked that name. If you thought that it somehow sounds cool: no, not in german. it actually makes no sense whatsoever. It is the equivalent to Western people getting Chinese Tattoos only to find out that what they thought meant 'Honesty' in fact means 'chicken with noodles'.

I've alreaady gotten a chuckle over some scenes in the video looking like straight Super Mario and Megaman ripoffs.

"Pleasure-stinger."

Which is an euphemism for p. enis.

The original concept of the first game was that of an eroge before they dropped it in favor of making a megaman clone; which is the best decision they could have ever made. Which means it's still a fitting name technically.

Just came here after I saw the game and read it's name ( also as a german ).
I hoped there would be a topic about the name and here it is.
Well done :summerskull:

Yeah, I was actually cracking up quite hard when I first saw the game! Actually, it kinda fits the art direction!

Shows how much i know Germany, i would have guessed "Rose's Thorn Stiletto".

Anyway, a megaman clone with sexy anime girls? ...What's the catch?

Apart from having this in your library. But hey, i already have Hyperdimension Neptunia's there, so too late to worry about that :steammocking:

Nononono. You're almost right with the normal name. It's rose-cross-stiletto
However, "Freudenstachel" is pleasure stinger.

google translate comes up with "Roses cross-stitched" or "Roses crisscrossed"...

"Rosenkreuzstilette" is German for "Blades of the Rose Cross". "Freudenstachel" is German for "The Sting of Joy". Granted, the games were named by a pair of Japanese indie developers with very little fluency in German; that's why we made a point of running all of the German text by a German native (and correcting them where necessary).

Please get your mind out of the gutter.

Literal translation of the whole thing:

"Rose-cross-stiettos Pleasure-sting"

And yes, "Pleasure-sting" is commonly used as a synonym for penis, which makes the whole titles kinda hilarious.
A friend of mine (japanese) once explained me how german sounds mysterious and aesthetically appealing to japanese people. I asked him what he thinks about "Tapetenrolle" and he was totally into it like "ooh yeah, that sounds pretty crazy".
I guess as long as its german, its good enough ^^ but you always have to consider that they didnt create the game for germans anyway :F

OP: Just like we used random asian characters for tattoos and in games, Japanese and Korean game companies and musicians use random English and (((other language))) phrases that don't necessarily mean anything, but sound neat.

I'm more confused by the frequent Japanese usage of German words, because aside from WW2, I don't think they particularly got along very well.
