How the hell do you beat the hot dog eating contest (SP)

I have now played this 5 times, and am getting discouraged because the game will not allow me to move on

The AI player never misses a single one, not ONE. And even when I too am hitting them perfect he still seems to be getting points faster. I literally CANNOT get ahead. Am I doing something wrong?

The contest is just to see who "drives" anyway. Why is this not skippable???

The basic idea is to continue eating until it gets so fast you can't hit the keys/buttons correctly anymore, then drink to slow it down again.

So far the theory as I haven't managed to win the contest so far either. And playing with keyboard instead of a controller makes it even more difficult because with the default key bindings it's just completely crazy you have to press I, O & P with the left hand instead of the right hand you are usually using.

I concur this is pretty much discouraging. Nothing against the actual idea of pressing keys at the right time, but then do it in a way you don't have to exercise completely unusual behavior - using the up, down, left and right movement keys would have done, too.

Guess I will have to try again with a different key binding...

I'm glad i'm not the only one. I was really enjoying this game up until that point, but this mini game totally stopped all momentum cold, and after the 5th time I just gave up out of boredom, and after thinking about it I ended up refunding

Not a great game design. This should be skippable if nothing else. It totally kills the fun after failing over and over again

I had a ton of goodwill getting to this segment, but this bit killed it

If you found out how this minigame works, it's realy easy. But I can understand you. Until this point it's a bit frustrating.

The hot dog contest seems to be much to difficult. I have absolutely no chance to win. I tried it X times, but nothing.... It kills all the fun in the game!

After watching a few Let's Play videos I'm a bit confused: Why do some people have to do this contest and others don't have? They slap the drivers in the trailer and then go to the race immediately - no frustrating contest!

No, once again: It's very easy if you understand the mechanic. Don't drink beer until it's way too fast. The beer is only for slow-down. If the green/yellow/red bar becomes red, then it's time to drink. And don't drink too much because then the game is way to slow. With this slow speed you can't win.

As you eat, the meter bar rises up. The higher it is, the faster the symbols drop. When you hit the Y button (on xbox controller at least) to drink beer, you can spam Y as much as you want to lower the bar to a level you're comfortable with. The trick is to lower it down low enough that you can manage for a while, but to keep it high enough that you get symbols fast enough to score more than the other character.

Took me a while to understand that you could spam the drink beer button to lower the bar as much as needed. If you just hit the button once to drink, it has almost no effect. Once I caught up on that, it was over in a single try. :)

Chance the keys. The normal keyboard assignment is terrible.
I use this:
Up down right left as normal
Numpad:
1 - light hit
2 - special hit
3 - block
5 - pick up
0 - run

This setup is much better in my opinion. The only thing... it's important to play the mini-game with Bud because when you play Terence you can't read the incoming keys.

Fishy said everything. It also took 4 tries for me to figure I could spam the "drink" button.

I am now debating picking the game up again or not. I suppose I probably will and just try to get through it, but I hope the dev's are paying attention and realizing that this is an issue and there should either be some sort of tutorial on this, or at the very least make it skippable, because it really is NOT fun

I remember the game Southpark Stick of Truth. There were minigames that were even harder for keyboard-players. It was never fixed from the devs =(

Then i'd say there is little chance here, as this is a much smaller team AND none of them have chimed in whatsoever
