CHAOS:
- I've played Chaos since I had Dawn of War I, the original, and they were instantly my favorite due to the models, crazy lategame power, high firepower and nice adaptability midgame.
- Chaos is probably IMO the lesser of all the human evils in Warhammer
- In Retribution, even moreso than the other races, they took a hit to their lategame power in favor of an oppressive early and midgame.
- Their pros of Chaos are that they counter melee to the point of silliness with Aspiring Champion Heretics, Eternal War Space Marines, and Sonic Blasters, their early and midgame damage is very dangerous, most of their units are at worst average in cost in Requisition and Energy, meaning that they can come back pretty easily at any point of the game, their heroes are all borderline silly in terms of combat strength, their globals and worship utility are pretty damn remarkable, and there's more upgrade routes than usual for them for the sake of adaptability.
- Their cons are that their lategame is mediocre compared to some of the other races now, their light infantry squad early can bleed you pretty bad if you're playing sloppy, their hero utility severely lacks compared to other heroes of other factions, and they don't get a lategame squad in retail.
ELDAR:
- I honestly didn't like Eldar in the original Dawn of War. They were too fragile even with all their models and I honestly thought they only started getting strong at the end of the game.
- Eldar have a pretty awesome lore though, and that's part of what drew me not to them, but rather their evil counterparts, the Dark Eldar. DE was my main race in DoW Soulstorm, as I liked just how fun they could be early, how ridiculous their midgame could be and how adaptable their lategame was (despite being sort of weaker then).
- Eldar weren't my favorites in the beginning of playing DoW Retribution. I felt they had a similar problem in this one that they did in the earlier games, but now with even less models. But rather, this time the faction is more oriented towards those who masterfully micro them, as they (like their original counterparts) are the most mobile race in the game, across the board, in addition to a few other details.
- The pros of Eldar are their early AOE potential with grenades, melee units with high mobility and easy suppression (that you can start out with; there is no other class with this save the Heretics, and they have to bleed themselves to do it) which also scale pretty decently as well, their monstrous mid and lategame (esp. late, the Avatar of Khaine is terrifying to behold and to fight), heroes that are highly adaptable for most forms of combat (as are most of the Eldar units), strong utility across the board for all heroes, and they have two forms of artillery that are good against all targets.
- The cons of Eldar are their immense fragility (heroes and units alike), energy cost expenses (so attacking their power successfully hurts them more than most races), lack of upgrades once you decide to pick a squad (so inflexible once purchased, but before then not so much), their globals are all kinda meh, and all of this combined means that generally when you fight Eldar and they have a rough start, it's tough for them to come back.
Hope this input helped. :)
Kinda ironic.
I'd love that...but only if it worked really really well and had a LOT of maps, but not just land battles...space battles as well.
A lot of unit variety would be needed, artillery is a MUST.
Even if it took years and years to get released, I'd wait for it with patience.
As for the topic here, I go for Spehs Mahreens. Typical n00b pick huh.
Yeah, they were the first faction I took, duh...but I'm a Spehs Mahreen for life, no denying that.
But picking Chaos is never something I run away from lol D:
Personally I wouldn't view Space Marines as a noob pick, at least not in DoW2. They have a lot of Micro to deal with regarding Scouts, and most of their squads having heavy infantry and vehicles can be a blessing and a curse.
Seems like a straw man saying that I called Chaos the least evil of the humans, even you claimed that I said they were the LESSER, not the LEAST. :P
