Yes, you can do this.

- The files MUST be .png files.

- They must be 128x128 pixels in size. No more. No less.

- Use an editor program like G!mp or Photoshop to create these. Take an image that you like, resize or edit it to the correct size and save it as .PNG format.

- Put your completed badges in this location :

C:\Users\YourNameHere\Documents\My Games\Dawn of War II - Retribution\Badges

If the first bit confuses you, skip to MyDocuments > My Games, etc.

Other people WILL be able to see your custom insignia and icons. Please keep them modest and 'appropriate'. No one likes seeing racist iconography, pron or ♥♥♥♥♥ on Space Marine shoulders :P

- - -

When making your Badge in Gimp or Photoshop, make sure that you add an 'Alpha channel' and delete ALL the edge surrounding your icon. Then save it as a .PNG.

This way you will get just the icon, as you want, when applied to your units ingame.

If you do not do this correctly, you will get your icon - but you will see a nasty white square 128x128 edge.

- - -

Also, whilst I have done this correctly with over 100 custom badges, sometimes for whatever reason the game decides to show my custom icon with a white-surround in the badge selection menu, in the Army Painter.

However, this is just some error with the game. If you made your Badges properly, they will still show no white-surround when actually applied to the model.

Here is an example of this.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=370353133

The icon shows up correctly on the Model (with no white-surround) but for whatever reason the game gives the Badge a white-surround in the Badge Selection on the left.

I dont know how to open Gimp or Photoshop and use 'Save As' to save an Image as a .PNG, or use the Edit > Scale Image option to make sure its 128x128.

I literally told you step-by-step how to do it. Its really not very difficult.

But if you absolutely cant, just use a Google Image Search for 128x128 pixel size icons or images.

Again, they MUST be .png files.

If its still an issue, maybe I could create a batch of whatever you want and upload it to 4share or Mediafire or something. I've done it for other friends before, but its rare for me to offer for a random forum-goer :P

Or alternatively I will make a large batch and post the relevant download link here. Make suggestions for what you people want.

Do you mean the Howling Griffons? If so, here ya go: {LINK REMOVED}

That should work. Just paste it where Venrez said.

Btw Venrez, you have Shuma's Warlock model? It looks amazing. I wish he would keep making those. Busy guy, unfortunately :(

Yes, it is Shuma's model. I use a number of his cosmetic mods.

However, I've run into an extremely annoying problem with which I have no idea how to fix or even WHY it is happening.

When some of these custom models are installed, the official paid DLC skins (like Krieg Korps, Ultramarines, etc) disappear from my Army Painter list. As in, they're totally not there and cannot be selected at all.

Most specifically, Shuma has a number of cosmetic models for Tyranids, such as a Prime Alpha Lictor and Prime Alpha Ravener. If I have either of these .sga files in the Mods folder, the Imperial Guard Krieg Korps disappear from the Army Painter.

If I exit the game, remove the 'Nid mods, then go back ingame - the Krieg Korps reappear.

Which makes no sense at all. Why should a mod affecting the 'Nids conflict with the Krieg Korps ~specifically~ somehow?

The models can be found here: http://s1.zetaboards.com/The_fsc/forum/1691583/

It might be because the mod replaces the armypaintercolours.lua file. Not sure why that would remove DLC, and not entirely sure how to get around this without additional modding to be honest.

I use the Relic forums to find Shuma's mods, but that link is also a viable place to find them.

What annoys me is that EVERY. SINGLE. IMAGE. of Shuma's via ImageShack appears to have been taken down. So every preview image for his mods is just a blank ImageShack logo.

There is also this : {LINK REMOVED}

I find that to be the best sum collection of all of Shuma's mods, because most of the links on forums lead to 404's or otherwise dont work. The only problem is you need to know what you're looking for because most of the file names are not self explanatory.

I've heard mention of this armypaintercolours.lua file numerous times but, in searching both directories of DoW2 (MyDocuments and the Steam installation) the file simply isnt there.

I believe it could possibly be fixed by getting the .lua file, adding the Krieg colors to it, then saving it as an .sga and adding it as a mod along with everything else.

But I dont have the .lua file to begin with, so I cant.

Yeah, it is annoying that all of the pictures were taken down.

You can find the .lua file when you extract the .sga file named '000_data' I believe, in the '\GameAssets\Archives' folder in the folder containing your Steam installation files.

I've found the file, thanks. Extracted it.

Im going to see if I can modify it. I'll try adding the Krieg colors, aswell as my own.

Then I'll recompile it as an .sga and put it in the Mods folder. Then see if it works.

If that works, then I'll put back in the other mods (that caused the Krieg Korps to disappear from the Army Painter) and hopefully, all will be good.

Hopefully.

Im staring at an incredible wall of text here and with .lua files like this, even a single space or . in the wrong place screws up the entire thing.
Venrez Jan 10, 2015 @ 3:48am
As expected, ran into a wall of problems.

Here is a screenshot of two .lua files.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=372686285

One is of defaultchaptercolours.lua, which includes the Krieg Korps entry for the Army Painter and lists their relevant colors.

As you can see, I also tried adding some of my own "Vytnari" colours. None of these appear in-game, when I convert the .lua into an .sga and put it in the Mods folder.

One is the actual armypaintercolours.lua which lists the data for all the colours currently used in DoW. However, you guessed it - it doesnt include the Krieg colours, such as Krieg Blue or Krieg Grey.

Therefore, to make a new entry for these two colours, they must be exactly correct - and I do not know the numbers for them.

I need the Red-Green-Blue (RGB) colour index numbers for both colours.

I need the teamSpecular number.

teamgloss I assume is 0 because they are not metallic colours.

One particularly troublesome thing is the paintLocID number. This I assume gives the paint its own seperate entry in the Army painter for selection (the colored balls you click to choose it). However, even when typing in random numbers, I cant add my own custom colours, so there must be some exact formula for these numbers that I do not know.

- - -

Im thinking it is still possible, but I am missing these crucial bits of information and I have no idea where to find them, because for whatever reason, all of the DoW files seem to completely lack anything and everything to do with the Krieg Korps, but every Mod similarly conflicts with files or settings that arent there :I

Yeah, it's strange. Even when I go into the army painter, the Krieg colors aren't there to be selected. I'll have to look into it some more. It has to be somewhere.

But since they aren't there, it means something else in the armypaintercolors.lua is affecting the DLC. If you can find the differences between the two (try here: https://www.diffchecker.com/) and can add the differences into Shuma's file, maybe it could solve the problem. No idea if that'll work though, just guessing at this point.

Its good to finally have someone to talk about this. It'd be great to actually find a solution and fix for both the mods disabling the Krieg Korps along with possibly recoloring the official DLC (as I know it ~can~ be done).

Its just a shame its proving so damn difficult.

There are heaps of differences between armypaintercolours.lua and defaultchaptercolours.lua.

Heaps.

So its really hard, if not impossible, to determine what is causing the issue from this viewpoint.

- - -

For instance, defaultchaptercolours.lua lists entries like this

{
chapterKeyName = "SM_Bloodravens",

chapterNameID = 9109487, -- LOCDB [9109487] 'Blood Ravens'
--~ chapterNameID = 9109488, -- LOCDB [9109488] 'Blood Ravens Chapter'

primaryColourName = "Blood Raven Red",
secondaryColourName = "Bone",
tintColourName = "Chaos Black",
extraColourName = "Metallic Gold",

teamTex = "1",
badge1Tex = "sm_Bloodravens",

usableRaces = { "race_marine" },
armyPainterVisibility = true,
},

- - -

And armypaintercolours.lua lists entries like this

{
teamColour = { 100, 20, 0 },
teamSpecular = { 0, 0, 0 },
teamGloss = 0,
paintLocId = 9110470,
paintName = "Blood Raven Red",
armyPainterVisibility = true,
},

- - -

So... I think the problem is a mix of the two.

defaultchaptercolours.lua tells the game what colours to use in what places, as we see via the interface in the Army Painter.

armypaintercolours.lua tells the game what those colours actually are, in RGB, Specular and Gloss values along with a numerical identification.

But... I have no idea how to correlate the two. Yes, its obvious as to how it works - but I dont understand how its NOT working in terms of blocking the Krieg Korps and conflicting with Mods.

- - -

Interestingly, as we have suggested earlier, defaultchaptercolours.lua includes an entry for the Death Korps of Krieg. It looks like this.

{
chapterKeyName = "IG_Death_Korps_DLC",

chapterNameID = 9161287, -- LOCDB [9161287] 'Death Korps of Krieg'

primaryColourName = "Krieg Blue",
secondaryColourName = "Krieg Grey",
tintColourName = "Boltgun Metal",
extraColourName = "Red Gore",

teamTex = "1",
badge1Tex = "IG_DeathKorps",

usableRaces = { "race_imperial_guard" },
armyPainterVisibility = true,
},

But the armypaintercolours.lua file does NOT contain any entries for Krieg Blue or Krieg Grey and we have absolutely no way of guessing these values because if you consider the RGB, Specular, Tint and Identification numbers you have literally trillions of number-combinations to guess - and for the sake of the game code, it must be EXACT.
