Windows 8.1 compatability issues

I got a new system that came with windows 8.1 and when ever i try to load dow 2 it crashes after 3 or so seconds of selecting play, ive tryed running it with compatability for windows 8 and as the administrator but nothing seems to be working.

Just downlaod Windows 10, its common knowledge windows 8.1 was the worst operating system in history. But if you want to know something try these list of suggestions:

1. It could be your d3dx9_39.dll file meaning that you would have to download it from a source on the internet: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3dx9_39

2. You may need to reinstall, and then verify the game!!

3. You may need to install directx manually which can be found in your Dawn of War 2 Retribution file, which should contain another file called "Install", go into it scroll to the bottom, and then click the DXSETUP option.

4. Just download to Windows 10!!

There's nothing wrong with W8.1 (but vanilla W8 is another story). Currently there is a multitude of problems concerning all manner of programs which runs perfectly on previous OS but not on W10, so I would suggest patience with upgrading.

i have upgraded from widows 8.1 to 10 nad i have no problems playing DOW2 i did at first due to the game did not install the driectX needed to play DOW2 i have to go online to get them

Ive decided to get windows 10 just hopeing something doesent happen like this with any thing else in my library

I played DOW2 and Ret just fine with occasional crashes several years ago on Vista 64. I'm running 8.1 now.

I started playing DOW2 and Ret again about a month ago. The crashes were frequent and annoying but I could at least finish a campaign mission. I haven't played much in the last 2 weeks and started playing again last night. Now I crash EVERY... SINGLE... MISSION on both DoW2 Loyalist campaign and any Ret campaign. I'm not sure if it's a Steam issue or a DOW issue,. or a bit of BOTH.

I crash at seemingly random times. In combat, out of combat, mid mission, 5 minutes into a mission, or near the end of a mission. Not only does the game crash, it totally F'ks up my computer and I cannot alt/tab or ctrl/alt/delete. I have to reboot my system which really pisses me off.

This is total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and totally unsat.
