*Game Fix for black screen crash on startup* AMD Ryzen CPU
I spent a couple of weeks finding this fix and managed to find it in an obscure location somewhere after the first page of Google so here it goes. It helped me, it might help you.

Something about the AMD Ryzen CPU 16 core processors upsets Dawn Of War 2 and it refuses to run. In my case the game would boot to a black screen and hang.

To fix this download the AMD Ryzen over clocking tools called "Ryzen Master".

Once in the program, Under "Profile 1" tick the option for "Legacy Compatibility Mode" and Apply changes.

After this my game booted without issue.

You may have to restart the PC.

Good Luck.

I have an AMD Ryzen 16 core computer but alas, Ryzen Master doesn't appear to be compatible with my 4000 series. Do you know of ANY program that does anything similar?
Anyone who can help is appreciated.

Honestly I have no idea if Ryzen Master doesn't help. There may be a legacy mode in your bios. There may be a different overclocking tool you can use that does the same thing that isn't Ryzen that is specific to you CPU core. Hopefully though if you have information that it might be the cores you can track down what you need specific to your hardware.

Good Luck!

Out of interest, if people are having this issue and Ryzen Master doesn't fix it, perhaps try this. I have no idea if this will work and have not tried it myself.

"When the program is running, you can adjust its Processor Affinity by opening the Task Manager (right-click the Task Bar and choose Task Manager), going to the Details tab, right-click the process you want to modify, and click Set affinity . From there, you can choose which core the program runs on."

I personally don't have this problem but I had a similar problem with a different game and to fix it I had to enable Legacy Components in windows.

1. To do this go to the Control Panel and select Programs and Features.
2. On the left side select 'Turn Windows features on or off'
3. A small window should appear, scroll down to 'Legacy Components' and click the box to add a check mark.
4. Press OK and reboot your machine.

Again I have no idea if this will help but it worked for a different older game that would black screen on loading and refused to load.

Best of luck!
This fixed my game immediately. My mates sang DOW2's praises but I had never played it before. Looking forward to playing a coop campaign. Great find lad, take my steam points

Its not just AMD. I am having the same issue and my computer has a Intel i9-10980XE CPU @ 3.00GHz.

As far as I remember, and if not mistaken, it's all about CPU cores count. This game is fairly old, so it makes sense to expect some issues on modern systems.
You can create a .bat file to launch the game properly. By assigning CPU affinity you can mitigate the issue, I guess.
Go there: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Windows#Force_CPU_affinity for instructions.
Though I'm aware this doesn't work with some games, I believe it is not the case here.

rebump
Looks like someone on Github recently developed a homebrew patch for this. Finally fixed the game on my modern machine (AMD Ryzen 9 5950x with RTX 3090).

Nope, didn`t work for me.

Thanks a lot man!
this works with R9 5950x CPU
I've almost lost any hope, but your thread is just like a light in complete darkness.
Even setting affinity mask won't deal but this sollution is brilliant.

P.S. Given model is for ppl who is not sure this will work with their CPU.

Ayo this actually worked. I had low hopes since i tried countless of fixes, but this one saved me the trouble of learning how to create one myself. Thanks for the heads up about this!

Wouldn't there be a BIOS option for this "Legacy Mode" ???
