*Game Fix for black screen crash on startup* AMD Ryzen CPU
I spent a couple of weeks finding this fix and managed to find it in an obscure location somewhere after the first page of Google so here it goes. It helped me, it might help you.

Something about the AMD Ryzen CPU 16 core processors upsets Dawn Of War 2 and it refuses to run. In my case the game would boot to a black screen and hang.

To fix this download the AMD Ryzen over clocking tools called "Ryzen Master".

Once in the program, Under "Profile 1" tick the option for "Legacy Compatibility Mode" and Apply changes.

After this my game booted without issue.

You may have to restart the PC.

Good Luck.

Hey man, just came by to say thank you so much for this. I too have a 16 core processor, and was having the same issue as you. Now I can play me some Tyranids, thanks from the US.

I imagine more and more people will have this problem as they update their computers in time.

Bumping this one up so its easier to find. Thanks for the steam award too, I didn't even know that was a thing.

This fixed my problem and it was so simple. You probably have an idea, but I worked so hard for the past year trying to resolve this issue. I came across the fact the the game might not like my 16 processors but had no idea how to appease the machine spirit. Thanks for sharing, I can now play one of my favorite games again! Deserve the points!

It was just dumb luck that I had access to two identical computers except for the processors. After trying all the obvious things like copying files it came down to only being the processor and I worked from there. It was painful to find a solution and from what I have seen it causes a similar crash on other games too. This one change fixes them all though.

Switch out the old Divx files. They are what's causing it not to load.

Delete in the file folders then, get new decoder files on line.

DivxDecoder.dll

and DivxMediaLib.dll are the ones you will need to replace.

Did this and started working just fine.

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I just tried reversing my fix and trying the DiVX fix again just to be sure and it didn't work this time either. Legacy mode for CPU has been the only thing that has worked. (as mentioned I have identical hardware except for the CPU)

Hey Waaag, sorry, I am kinda rookie here.
When starting Retribution, my game crashes and goes back to the desktop. I can hardly shut it down.
I have a AMD Ryzen 5 4600H. Would your solution fix my problem ? I do not know if I have 16 core processors.

Sounds like exactly the problem I had. Barely being able to shut it down is part of the problem. It should fix it yes.

That's great, many thanks for your answer. A last question : does ticking the option "Legacy etc" will have an impact on my other games or my hardware components ? Again, sorry, I am not an IT-guy and I know my question may seem dumbish.

Not that I have found. Had it set since I made this post. If anything it would avoid the same situation with any other games I imagine.

It seems that my CPU is not supported by Ryzen Master. That's sad but I still thank you for the help.
