Buy both

DOW1

+RTS where you don't have to build a collector unit every couple of moments just to increase resource rate
+Easy base expansion through listening posts
+Expansions let you play as other factions in the campaign
+Melee units have a purpose in disrupting ranged units
+[Soulstorm expansion]A lot of mods that add new factions from the cannon(thousand sons, world eaters, chaos daemons, Daemon Hunters)

-Questionable pathfinding
-Soulstorm expansion has a badly designed campaign

~-later expansions focus less on story, more on playing as other races

DOW2

~No base building
~Gameplay relies more on capturing objectives
~Campaign focuses on 1 fraction mainly until the Retribution expansion
~Campaign is pretty much taking around 4 overpowered squads and completing an objective
~Smaller armies

+Hero units are more useful
+Game looks beautiful for an RTS

-Retribution expansion was a bit rushed

BOTH

+SYNC KILLS(unit finisher animations during melee combat)

What is a sync kill?

dow2 is the best of all the dows , dow 1 was great for the time but COH did it better, becuase thq took all the feedback and ideas from dow 1 and applied them to COH. rts are so boring now same formula for 20 years. DOW2 was like a modern more polished version of Chaos Gate which was an awesome SSI game,

Both. DoW 1 is good for Basebuilding and has WH40000 typical large armies while DoW2 has a better story and focus more or less soly on fight but has not so large armies and a untypical retreat function.

Heads up, if you like them, people still play online. In vanilla and in a variety of mods for both games. :pitiless:

SoulStorm - No base Saving, I like that feature in the Dark Crusade. But do need the Galaxy or a Universe.
