Game crashes at startup

It literally just crashes after the Mooneye logo with an UE4 fatal error... and that's about it. On Win 10, high end PC, everything up to date.

i had the same error after flying with to many hummingbirds (fatal error at start up)
what i did to get it to work again is i got to my steam libary i pressed search for errors, steam found one and made it work again. didnt know what the error was but it is working again

Hummingbirds are my fav and I haven't seen this issue yet. Hopefully it is just a few users.

Well, I decided to try to launch it not directly from steam but from a shortcut, which somehow worked, played for about 10 minutes after which it crashed again. This game is currently broken for some of us, a real shame, was looking forward to it :(

Same here. GTX960, Win10 Prof. - After disabling Steam Overlay and fixing the local files via Steam it seems that it helped with the startup crashes. Will play tomorrow to see if its working fine now.

Sure thing, core i9 9900K, 32 Gigs of DDR4, GTX 1080, game installed on an M.2 drive, Win 10 Pro up to date, nvidia drivers up to date. Currently using the steam beta library thing, don't know if that has anything to do with it. Error is the same as the comment above mine, just Fatal error and an OK button. Hopefully you guys can investigate and patch this, I'd like to play this lovely animal game :)

I have the same issue but seems to be linked to Steam. Once I started the game from the local folder directly, I did not get any the error during the startup.

Yeah, but the game still randomly crashes during gameplay with the same fatal error, so it's still not playable :(

I'm also getting a fatal error when the game is left in the menu screen (happened twice) and whilst flying as a hummingbird.

The game did crash on me on initial startup (first launch). Fatal error, though I did not catch an error code before the error window dropped away.

Windows Firewall did try to block something just before the crash, I did have to "end task" using Task Manager to kill the game. Cursor was lost (no cursor on screen at eh time of the crash), no mouse input. Keyboard input also lost. No way to click the "OK" button.

Game launched fine the second time, Prologue played w/o issue, steady 60 fps, no crashes, no spikes/hitches/stutters. However it did immediately heat my GPU up to 72°C at startup (On Epic settings), taking it down to Low settings only lowered the temp to 68-69°C. Both GPU fans ramped up and were going at 50%, temp stayed at 70-75°C throughout the Prologue. Not critical temps for my GPU, but a bit higher than I expected from the game, after seeing the minimum and recommended system specs on the store page. CPU never topped 34°C. I do have custom liquid cooling on the CPU, but not on the GPU. Using Steam Client Stable (not Beta client like the OP.) Running Steam Client and the game as Administrator. All files validated through Steam w/o issue, no missing files. Steam Common Redistributables also verified w/o issue (no missing or corrupted files).

i9 9900K @3.6 GHz (no OC)
NVIDIA 2060 RTX Super (Zotac Gaming) (Driver v441.20)
16 GB DDR4 System RAM

Also when i played the cute humming-bird for the first time, not sure if i was to high or smashed the spacebar to often. :D
Tried the steam repair thingy but it didn´t help at all sadly.

i have a problem to play the game. when i start the game it will say: Application Error (some numbers). i have windows 10 laptop and stuff. i have tryed to restart Steam and my whole laptop, but it still doesnt work at all.

thanks for reporting this. I am one of the devs. Would be great if all of you could send any additional information to your crashes to [e-mail] so we can fix these issues asap.
Would be great to have the steps what you did to cause the crash and what kind of hardware you have. Any information helps.

i have the same problem form time to time but either restarting my pc or relaunching the game fixes it for me
