Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop

Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop

Dedicated Server friends-only (private)
Hello, I recently got a dedicated server for the game up and running, but I created it for playing with my friends (easy access, better ping and custom content). How can I make it friends-only and exclude it from public searching?

Seeing some dserver has password protected on the serverbrowser, I've tried adding "sv_password" to server.cfg but whenever I connect, I either got stuck on the loading screen with no loading bar, the game freeze and I have to shut it down or get "The seasons is no longer available" message.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Connect to the server via connect ip:port,Using the command sv_tags "hidden" will have the same effect, the server will not be displayed in the browser list
I've tested and seem like it was hidden from server browser at first, but as soon as there's player playing on it, the server will appear again and public folks will join.
Then please try -nomaster it has better results

If you have a Steam group for your friends, set sv_steamgroup to the group's ID and sv_steamgroup_exclusive 1

You can also add -nomaster to your srcds.exe command to avoid having it listed in the dedicated server browser.

Don't the sv_steamgroup_exclusive only work if there's no one playing on the server? That's what I got in the Valve official site.

Adding -nomaster launch command exclude it from listed in the serverbrowser, but the Steam Group Server section on the lower right also gone, so how can I join it from the menu?

Thanks Ben!

Wouldn't it be the easiest to just use a password for your server?

Damn I totally forgot 'bout this thread lol, so basically as in my first post, the password thingy didn't work out for me, so I end up using -nomaster launch option as Ben and Dubstep suggested since then :D Thanks for trying to help btw!

I think I didn't get what you trying to say here. How exactly can I use those two passwords, assuming one is from "sv_password"?

All put in the server.cfg file right? Well will try it soon, much appreciated element109!

Also isn't setting a password for entry into mp AND current sv access permission is a bit overkill? And remote it every time after I joined... That's some what inefficient imo.

The password command is used when connecting to a server with a password from console like this:
connect ip:port password thepassword
Damn so in the end it goes back to console command then lol, so using -nomaster is actually more convenient for me and my friends here without the need to setup ton of layer of password...

I was just pointing out that setting "password" is the password that gets sent to a server when joining, setting sv_password is the password for your server. Once your friends enter the password command with your password into a cfg or a bind or their commandline they never have to set it again. An unlisted server is still joinable by unwanted players.
Hmm, I get it that setting the password make the sv more secure and private, but still don't understand why would I have to setup 2 different password for "password" and "sv_password" but not one nor I have to remove the password everytime I joined my sv.

For you "password" and "sv_password" are the same. Your friends or Steam group members would set only "password". You said that setting an exclusive Steam group only works if the server is not empty, if that is the case you could set a password only you know on the server to keep others from joining, then remove it after you have joined as you would be a member of that Steam group (this could be scripted so it is auto magic).
Which going back to my first problem stated in the post: I can't connect to my sv when it password protected. Also although I am grateful to you for writing the script, but afraid that I don't know how to even use it lol
