how to stop game from launching internet explorer after quitting

so i noticed something REALLY annoying.

sometimes after quitting the game, it launches internet explorer as a background process. no screen pops up, just a massive CPU chunk is devoted to an active internet explorer process.
and i know it's maplestory because steam tells me the game is still "running" until i have no option but to forcefully end the process tree via task manager. because there's no window for me to click and no application icon in the apps section of the task manager.

this doesn't happen while i have the game running, it's only after quitting. how do i stop it. i'm using windows 7. windows doesn't allow you completely remove internet explorer from your computer.

still looking for a resolution to this. it's incredibly annoying and tbh kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ invasive?? it shouldn't be allowed to force start other programs without my permission
