MapleStory 2

MapleStory 2

Is this game Pay to Win?
I played the first Maplestory a lot as a kid. I liked it but looking back I remember tons of micro transactions. I spent a ton on the game and prob would never spend that much again. Also I remember the old Maplestory sort of falled apart and died with to many updates, and that Nexon kinda ruins their games with to many micro transactions, and my account getting hacked, hijacked, and banned due to cheating.
Should I care at all about this game? I already have a MMO I play that isn't in your face about micro transactions, so is this one worth it? Am I going to loose gold and items with updates like the last game? I'm pretty skeptical about Nexon.

I would say it's not P2W from what I've seen so far, but who knows what will happen in the future. When a game goes P2W, I just stop playing the game and supporting the developer, IE Black Desert Online. If you do plan on picking it up, make sure you have a strong password and good Antivirus software to help your account safe. Also only login from a computer you trust.

Outside of that I'd recommend checking out reviews online if you need more information. Personally I'm really enjoying it and glad I picked up one of the founder packs.

Edit: Also if you choose to purchase through Steam, make sure you have Steam Guard.

I understand the skepticism, but honestly Nexon has been pretty good so far. They've removed multiple potentially P2W aspects from the game based on community feedback, and they've also made systems such as housing a lot cheaper. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see what happens to the game after launch.

I'm seeing things that worry me... Like a thing that you buy to get rewards if you log in on a daily basis. Loging in on a daily basis to try to get you playing more is already a pretty meh thing, but paying for log in rewards is kind of worrying me...
Are the cosmetics you buy permanent? I remember in the first Maplestory they expired and disapeared after 90 days which was pretty BS.

they are permanent and you can make profit out of your own design if you are talented (sell them to other players while keeping the original)
There will likely be free loginrewards.. those are just a premium version with cashitems..

Hmm... I guess that is good. My only question now I guess is how popular it is. There are way more MMO's out these days then say 12 years ago. If it doesn't get enough of a playerbase then idk if it will last long. I guess I have to wait and see.

As Flying Fox said most of the items are permanent. That said there are a few items that work for a set amount of time, like assistance for your home or auto gathering badges. That said I haven't found any of these types of items to be needed in order to enjoy the game.

I agree temporary cosmetic items would be utter BS and you're correct the premium subcription model does give you a daily reward. The subcription model includes some very enticing perks that many players will take up outside of the daily login reward. That said the subcription model doesn't feel forced like some other games by locking you out of content, as it's aimed more at helping you advance your character quicker. For example reducing trade fees from the black market by 20% so you make more credits and increased experience gains, among other things.

That said if you want to be in the top 1% of the player base, then I would consider the subscription to be manditory.

Do you know if the packs on slae right now are exclusive and will go away when they game goes free to play on the 10th?
Also is there anywhere I can see the active player count? Because I asume there are people not playing on Steam? I want to know if it has a healthy player base of over... 5,000~10,000ish people logged in at one time daily.

Founder Packs are only available before the game launches, which is why so many are taking up the offer as they want some exclusive items to show they have been with the game from the start.

As to the active player count, I don't believe the numbers have been ofifcally released yet, so I'm not sure. Visually I can see a lot of people in the game, so the population looks healthy. Only time will tell how many stick around though, but based on what I have seen the game has enough loops and features to keep people interested.

If you decide to purchase a founder pack through Steam, please note that it can't be upgraded if you change your mind and want a higher teir one. So make sure you check what's right for you before pulling the trigger. I choose the Master pack, simply because I liked the cosmetic outfit.
