I tried poking around cd version and decided to take a second look after reading this. I couldn't get the cd version to install because it was a 16bit installer that wouldn't work on a 64 bit computer, so I really did some diving into the system that was above my head. That and I wanted a real life physical model of some of the stuff. The steam edition is a little bit different, mostly with it's sound. I don't know why the ui is there and other stuff is not, but I'd bet the graphics/textures are in some of those .dll files. If I had to take a guess I'd say the 3d models were .hob files similar to what was used in Rogue Squadron 3D. I wouldn't say it's impossible to update the graphics, but it'd be darn hard without the source material. I've tried getting into this thing. I don't have the programming skills or adequate knowledge of computer architecture, just enough knowledge to know kinda what needs to be done.

Yeah, I just opened up some of the .dll files in a hex editor and found some references to things that may models and to bmaps which I'm guessing are textures. I was also able to do a useless mod. Using the hex editor on the .exe itself you can change the captioning.

I know there is software that can get 16 bit software running on 64 bit software, virtual machines for example.

So the models are in the dl libraries? If theyre compiled/encoded I suppose a decompiler "might" work.... if only partly xD

you have some knowledge of how computers work, certainly a lot more than people who say "software is not moddable" :)
i mean, even hardware is moddable
