How the hell do you get the Jet Pack to work?

Here I am playing this awesome game but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to get the jetpack to work?! I double tap jump with it equipped on the fifth level at the top of the tower but nothing happens? I tried going into the control settings in the options but had no luck. Anyone know??

Q to enable it.

Once its enabled, X for thrust.

press esc then control hold mouse over or controller jetpack turnon then select button if not highlighted in blue go next then next again until highlighted then select button do this for all controls that are different spaceship ect

Using a 360 controller I found that whipping it against the wall didn't help. I tried that method several times during my most recent playthrough (GOG). I don't recommend it.

I don't know how i ever beat this game on my N64 back in the day, but I've always been a sucker for anything Star Wars, pre-disney abortions.

Well considering back then gamers had to adapt and learn to get good at using those goofy controllers, I still have my N64 and this game lol
