STAR WARS™: Shadows of the Empire

Game runs too fast
Well, yeah. That tends to happen with old PC games.
Does a fix exist?

Turn on v-sync.

That did it, thanks.

I turned on v-sync in the nvidia control panel, still running way too fast. Any other tips?

try using rivatuner to lock fps. my guess is you're on a high refresh rate monitor and vsync is polling to a higher rate than the game can run properly.

alternatively, try changing your refresh rate to 60hz if rivatuner wont work in this game. in game vsync should work properly then.

Sorry for the necro. I just bought the game on sale and have been hit hard with the hyperspeed bug.

I've been trying top get this game tor run in 1280x960 so the cutscenese aren't screwed up

Vsync foced via NCP

Locking FPS to 60 via inspector = game runs in hyperspeed

Changing monitor's refresh from 120Hz to 60Hz = game runs in hyperspeed

Forcing the game to 3840x2160-DSR = game runs at normal speed, but cutscenes are messed up and game has to be force quit (ALT+F4) as menus are innaccesable as the mouse won't drag down far enough to reach the menu buttons.

Steam seems to do a terrible job of optimizing older games to run correctly on modern rigs but continues to rerelease them anyway in a clear effort to kill off the abandonware sites.

Try locking it at 30fps and see what happens. I haven't played it in ages so I can't remember what exact FPS it requires before going into hyperspeed, but 30FPS should be a safe bet.

If rivatuner doesn't like the ancient version of DX the game uses, try going into NVCP and setting refresh rate to 60hz and then activating half refreshrate vsync in the advanced settings. Let me know what happens and I'll see if I can help you out more.

having the refresh at 30 and half rate vsync stopped hyperspeed buy replaced it with lag of the highest order.

I found by forcing VSYNC through NCP after focring it in Nvidia inspector then capping the FPS to 60 in NI and putting my refresh back to 120Hz, after going into juddery 30FPS console/console port territory fixed it. This is very weird, but good. If only there was a way to stop moving the mouse up and down from making dash walk forward and backward. I got WASD to handle forware/backward and strafe left/satrafe right so all I need is the mouse to only tutn and not make Dash walk forard and backward and I'd be completely golden.

Thanks for your help!
