Neketaka Guard Aggro
These are posts from General Discussion, this has got to be a bug. I am taking serious rep hits. I don't even start the fights, the NPC's do. My wife, who also plays the game, has the same exact problem. She also had this on Turn based, so I am going to run a test on her real time with pause playthrough to see if it happens as well.

"The guard aggro is my biggest complaint right now and the only thing I have encountered so far since coming back to the game. ANY bounty in Neketaka draws every guard from the map and onto you. Not just bounties, either. The Brine Imps that spawn on the Queen's Berth ramparts also drew guards to me.

Makes sense in a way, but damn, they could at least be neutral unless I accidentally hit them. I don't even bother reloading anymore, I just go murder hobo and take the reputation hit since I could really care less about Neketaka and the Huana.

Anyone else? I can't find any other posts on this."

Madd Llama I just ran into that same problem when I attacked Casseti(sp?), The guy who robbed the female Capt. and is harassing the shipbuilder. That means I can't have any combat in the city w/ out being attacked by the guards. Does anyone know how bad the penalty is for killing the city guards in Neketaka ? I don't want to negotiate w/ the criminal and I want to collect all the bounties. but I don't want to lose out on doing the Queen's quests like I did last time"

Started a fight with Cotta in pause mode and no guards showed up to slap me around. Must be a turn-based bug.

This is happening for me too in turn-based mode, and was an issue prior to the 5.0 patch that was hopefully going to be fixed. It was not. I am trying to do the bounty on Lord Admiral Imp and every time some guard spawns on the bridge east, just above the fight, who was not there before beginning the fight. He aggros and then runs down. It is not until he gets in range of my people that the other guards aggro, even though they were literally right next to my people prior.

I am going to go try the other Neketaka bounties to see if similar happens.

Edit: Bounty against Katrenn does not seem to aggro the guards in the same way as the Imp. Played through it for a number of rounds and never had a guard or civilian aggro for no discernible reason and was careful with AoE. I did nothing differently than I did with the Imp, yet the guards that spawn on the bridge by the Imp don't seem to have the same non-hostile flags as the static guards.

When I hit Katrenn EVERY guard and person within the temple aggroed me... even the named guy that you pay 3K for the skill from lol. Tried it three times, same result every time. I finally just waited until night so I could minimize my rep loss.

That is the one by the Temple of Magran, outside the Temple of Berath, right?

Katrenn is the one at the Sacred Stair, yeah. I fought her at night and had no issue with the NPCs around. With Lord Admiral Imp I tried day and night and it didn't matter, the second that guard spawned on the bridge he'd create an aggro bomb.

Can confrim. Tried Admiral Imp in Nekataka, all the guards go aggro after a while and attack me for some reason. Reloaded it several times, always the same outcome

Yeah it is turn-based because my wife uses Real time with pause on all these same fights and she has no issues with guard aggro.

As per June 2020. Who even gets this trouble with Katrenn, what i did is, i started to leave my party down the stairs besides where she stands, on the little sorta balcony with the water fountain, just at the bottom of the stairs, i then went with my Pally/Fighter which is my tank, and main character, to talk to her and aggro her, i Delayed all my group's turn until i get to her and my goal was to get half way to the stairs, so i can fight away from the guards and civilians so i don't aggro all, because even when Katrenn cast an AoE she aggroes them, so figthing on the stairs is safe from anyone using AoE's and you funel them so you also don'T get hit by all of them at the same time, specialy on my case, i fought her while they were all 3 skull and red sword, so was a long fight with her Colossus, but i made it. No one's aggroed exept her party.

This works for the Katrenn fight, but it's impossible to avoid guard aggro in the Admiral Imp fight. I can't believe devs didn't fix this ♥♥♥♥.

I am also having this problems. I'm playing turn based mode as well. I'm disappointed that this has been a known issue for over a year and its still happening.

The guards aggro in the middle of combat, like in the middle of the turn, when I'm looking at my spells and haven't clicked on anything, one will walk by, and suddenly a bunch of guards are add to initiative. :( I've reloaded 5 times, one of those times they didn't aggro until enemy aoe spell.

Yeah unfortunately they have larger projects to focus on. These are good devs, so my assumption is that this fix would have broken more in turn-based than it would have actually fixed.

No clue what the Nexus/Indie modding community is like on this game, but those types of bugs usually get fixed by them.

This is STILL an issue! Lord Admiral Imp cannot be killed for his bounty without aggro'ing guards and guaranteeing the eventual destruction of every guard in Neketaka. This can't be by design - the rep hit is heinous.

SOLUTION?

Sorry for the Necro-post but this was still a problem in late 2022. I might have discovered a work-around; I removed everyone from my party and went into stealth mode on the docks below Lord Admiral Imp then used range attacks to kite and kill the party. The townsfolk cowered but the guards never went aggro. If anyone else is able to replicate this "technique", please post.

My character is a level 13 Scout (Ranger/Rogue) with an animal companion (bear).
Still an issue, but when fighting Katrenn, you can avoid the initial guard aggro by talking to her to start the fight.

But... the nearby trainer guy who happens to be a Priest will run over and repeatedly heal and buff the golems and of course you can't kill him. He was using up to level 5 spells (that I saw). Longest fight I've ever had in either Pillars game, lol.
