New saves from Pillars of Eternity 1 are not imported after new patch.
After new patch for Pillars 1, Pillars 2 doesn't recognize new end game saves. Anyone knows when it will be fixed? I want to start and finish the second part before Avowed is released. (Yes, I know that there is an editor in 2nd part that allows you to create a custom story, but I prefer my choices to be directly imported from 1st part).

If you know there's a viable workaround that's simple/easy and built-in, why bother with doing it the hard way?

@Albinosaurus I don't trust such editors. In the past (in other games) they weren't able to create all the little details that importing a save provided. Anyway, if there's no info when new patch for Pillars 2 will be published I will just move to other games from my backlog, maybe Dragon's Dogma, maybe Divinity:OS1. I will wait for this patch, hopefully it will be released before Avowed is published.

Unfortunate. You'd think they would have checked this before they updated the first game.

I wouldn't expect another patch for this game any time soon. I think it's probably been awhile since the last one, for that matter. That said, the editor for this game works just fine. There's nothing special about using a POE1 save over the editor since the game just checks a few key points to determine certain interactions or possible bonuses. The rest of it is assumed generically from the standpoint of you being "The Watcher."

I decided to take a look at the Obsidian forums and someone posted this. I just tested it and it works. I'll copy the other persons instructions below. With a fix this easy Obsidian should have been able to release an update within a few hours of discovering this, I wonder what's taking them so long.

1. Go to your Pillars of Eternity 1 Saved Game directory. (C:\Users\"username"\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity)
2. Open the "gamecomplete.savegame" file in WinRAR.
3. Look for the file "saveinfo.xml" in the archive and open it in Notepad.
4. Find the following string and simply change value="3" to value="2":
5. Save "saveinfo.xml" in the archive, and then select "Yes" when WinRAR asks if you wish to update it in the archive.

Original link here as well.

There are two choices the in-game editor will not let you make -- they're only available if you imported a savegame from poe1. They're both related to the White March DLC.

Many thanks Spice Whale.

To add to your post, the string you need to edit is this one:

<Simple name="SaveVersion" type="System.Int32, mscorlib" value="3" />

I'm not sure if this has been asked a million times, so I'll ask this as a new player: Is it even worth doing so? Isn't there some website/app where I can custom create a "Save" to transfer over?

There was something like this in Dragon Age Inquisition; there was a website where you could create a "save" and make all the choices you supposedly made in the past games.

this was on June 11, 2024 Obsidian responded to my support ticket via email and it says this:
"-Hello Jamie

Thanks for contacting Obsidian Support! Our team is aware of this issue that is preventing players from importing their saves into Deadfire. It should be addressed in the next patch, and we are sorry for the inconvenience it's caused you and others.

Your only workaround for the time being is to use the feature that allows you to create your own save and define the major choices from the last game.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks!
