Eder: fighter - rogue
Aloth: mage - rogue
Serafen: cipher- barbarian
Pallegina: paladin - fighter
Maia: ranger-(don’t remember)
Xoti: monk- priest
Tekehu: druid-chanter
There is also Ydwin and other sidekicks, you can google them all.
Personally I like Aloth Fighter/Mage and Pallegina Paladin/Chanter
i suggest you look at character builds in the obsidian forums and find out what's fun for you. lots of creative builds there. you don't have to follow the builds down to a pat but it's a really good way to take inspiration from.

The Eder build is great
check the obsidian forums. they are updated!
Pick literally any 5 builds from there, make sure you have at least one healer :)

Aloth with Eder would be 2 frontliners, Xoti as support. Any advice for main character and last companion who would be good fit ? I would be happy if chanter and cipher made it to the rooster somehow (not necessary) but Pallegina doesn't fit here and I read Tekehu as chanter is kinda limited. If I made my main a chanter should I make him a multiclass or single (read different opinions)? Can't find really interesting builds for that... Serafen also as chanter doesn't seems fun as I don't like his "random spells on cast" option.
Would appreciate some opinions how to fill those 2 last spots (1 must be companion). I've already spent so much time today reading through different topics, I just want to start. Prolly later gonna restart game again >_>
DW to much about it. All you basically need is 1 tank, 1 DPS and 1 Priest (not rly but good to have).
Eder is more then enough to solo tank PoTD, so you have your tank (build? make him pure fighter and put all skill points in passive buffs, skip most of active ones, just send him 1st let him agro everybody. Thats what i did. He will just stand there and smoke his weed while holding an entire army with his medium shield).
What is kanker in PoTD is enemies will try to debuff you, like u ate there cake or something. Thats why u would like to have a priest for protection spells. U got Xoti for that (Xoti is <3 ) or Vatnir (this guy is sooooo awesome, but you will get him later in BoW DLC). U can swap them as u like, doesnt matter. Xoti got boring after her companion quest so i changed her for Vatnir. Also they can be ur support tank if some minions aggro ur dps.
So the game gives u an awesome tank and priests as companion. So u might want toskip those classes for ur main.
Rest is up to you. Any combination from all other companions will work just fine. Multiclassing some of them is up to you.
Personally. Aloth pure wizard, cuz u will wanna get Minoletta's Missile Salvo (last tier OP hax spell). Pallegina is nice as multiclass with chanter (cuz summons spam is always good). Rest doesnt matter.
Dont worry much about min-maxing party. For example if u love Xoti and you want to keep Vatnir for the lore in BoW DLC, do it. Meh, its doable with 2xPriest in party.
Reasuming. Eder tank, Xoti/Vatnir priest, rest is totaly up to you. Screw the min-max builds. U can have 3 ciphers or 3 rouges or 3 rangers or... what i mean is thats all combinations are good. Dont let anyone tell you u cant have, for example, 2xPriest and 2xciphers in party in PoTD cuz, yea, ofc u can. So dont worry about missing some particular class just cuz you saw it in some build as a must have for PotD, nah, screw builds. Its your story =) Only must have is a tank.
Last thing about PoTD. U will suffer as hell on first island, trust me. They will trow some serious ♥♥♥♥ at ur totally naked party. Personaly i think it was the hardest combat experince in game, mostly cuz it was ridiculously unfair. Dont give up in there and the rest should be easier. By easier i mean more ballanced (but still challenging). If u want to make game much easier, little spoiler, follow main quest right after 1st location to a big city Neketaka and u will end up in 20H+ of some fedex quests. Most of them are very cool storytelling so DW, it wont be boring. U should end up with high (not max) level party.
And yea, GL and have fun and dont min max 2 much, its not a race =)
Thanks! I am long time fan of those old school cRPGs like Baldur series. Always liked challange in these games so thats not a problem for me. Unfortunatelly with family stuff etc. can't really sacrifice as much time any more to sit for hours in char creator and make up different builds :(
I wanted different classes so I could have fun with different spells and skills :) that's all. Prolly gonna tinker with Cipher, chanter and druid for last 2 spots... If anyone has any suggestions or good builds to share, please do !
PS: Is there a big problem if I have in my party more then 2 melee/frontliners?

In PoE2, its good to think twice about your main character attributes while creating char, cuz you cant change them later in the game. And thats all you need to rethink twice. Companions have preset attributes so you dont have to think about it. U can reset all there skills ofc, but not attributes. And yea, dont worry about choosing wrong or some lame skill or spell, u can always reset =D
And about the lack of time... well i have bad (good) news for you. This game is huge, very huge =D Personaly it took me about 140H of pure gamaplay for just one playthrough (well maybe about 10H looking at those sometimes preaty long loading sceens =D ). And I just started the last DLC that came out last night. No idea how long will it be. But gotta be honest, every hour spended was fun (exept the times when i wanted to uninstal it cuz got rekt 10 times in a row by group of mobs -.-)
If you dont have much time, you are probably looking at about a 2 month game. Totaly worth any penny.
Anyway, have fun in there =)
That is why I waited for all DLC to be finished so didn't need to replay (although would love to replay solo) like in PoE 2 with White March. That is why I am asking these questions here so I won't have urge to restart game again in 1/2 because I made bad character ^^
