What game mode is best?
Turn based or real time with pause? What do you prefer

Realtime.

Personally waiting everyone to do their turns is annoying as hell especially when the number of guys is 20+ in a fight. It's why I stopped playing Divinity original sin 2.

In real time, you're still taking turns. A turn is 6 seconds. But at least everyone is doing their turn simultaneously.
This here. Turn based is great for learning the game, tough fights, or just a chill experience. It takes too long though, and real time is a bit more fun to me.
Already the first fight in the game, when you defend your ship from pirates, feels a little creaky with turn based. You patiently sit while the AI slowly fights itself and occasionally you get to do something.

Depends you might like either or. If I was you I would test it out for myself. You will get mixed opinions on the two, believe me on that. Now personally and I do have Poe1 and 2 with Poe1 only turned based with pause if you didn't already know that. I got tactical advantage on turned based. It seemed more manageable because you will micromanage your turns and strategy methodically thinker type play. longer engagements because of well turned based. The turned based with pause is by far faster, your going to pause to switch your strategy which your going to have to pay more attention to skill timers yours and theirs. You will have to think faster everything has to be faster.

rtwp cause poe 1 exists..........you either learn it now or forever just play the second game in the series

RTwP... by a mile.

Turnbased is a bit easier, but also trashes some classes and eats your time. So, If you want to be a Pirate and enjoy 100-150hours Story plus 100-200hours looting ships and maxing Gear, forget TB-mode even exists :cozycastondeath:

Alright seems like everyone prefers the real time

"everyone"

I didn't say that. But like I said test it yourself.

No no, everyone prefers real time and this is the way it's going to be.

Real time with pause, forever. Turn based tries too hard to rigidly force what is normally a chaotic pen and paper experience with shouting and laughing in to this neat little box which simply doesn't represent how the game plays out.

Do people have reduced health in turn based mode? In the ship battles especially it can take hundreds of hits to end a fight.

Lot's of people evidently love turned based mode or else it would not have made it to pillars of eternity 2.

Real time with pause for this game.. They built their ruleset specifically for it, turn based is not well balanced with class balance and encounter balance being out of wack, because it was only managed by a small group (or one person) as a pet project.
If you're looking for a turn based game, there are better ones out there.

logicly you would go rtwp. i wonder if op just decided to not buy the game cause rtwp :HappyMask: i play poe 1 for rtwp and poe 2 for chill turnbased

That´s why anyone I know who ever did Shipdeck-Battles in TB-mode.. well, generally a lot of fighting instead of "Talk" - was using custom Chars and Companions/Sidekicks juiced ..or those META cheese /borderline exploits

TB with "free actions" and "weapon switching" is easier, but such a slog that it still leads veterans to min-max ..as a result some TB-builds are cheesy AF or outright broken :steamsad:
-> Imho, EVOKER mage is basically set in TB ..same for Blackjacket+X , if you care about your time & private life :steammocking:

One of the reasons I'm considering turn based for PoE2 is because of classes like wizard. so many AoE abilities that can hurt your own party that are hard if not impossible to use in real time. More often then not in PoE 1, if I have my druid or wizard casting an AoE spell, I end up hitting as many allies as I do enemies due to the lag between giving the command and actual execution... enemies move around, characters move around, and when it goes off my own guys end up in the line of fire. It's been annoying to no end.
