That said , no there is no trick. All 4 should be available to you from the start
But yeah it does sound extremely frustrating ,especially considering the Junk is among the best ships.( personally I prefer the galleon sometimes)
They are. It has the advantage of 5 cannons per side (compared to 4 of the galleon). It has more sail health. Its weakness is the relatively low hull health. It also requires more crew to operate
That being said, the sea battles are not tough so it is really a matter of preference whether you want a galleon or a junk.
In short, more firepower than the rest. Galleon is the tankiest one.
In general however it doesnt actually matter because ship combat is terrible . The best scenario is to just board the enemy ship and kill everyone ( you even get more loot = money way ).
Personally I did a bit of ship combat at start, then abandoned it .
