I cannot cast any spells. :(

I am having a weird issue--I cannot tell any characters (mine or party) to cast spells. If I turn the AI on, they will cast spells on their own, but I cannot tell them to do it. If I turn the AI off (how I like to play) they will not cast any spell I ask them to cast.

It starts off fine, with how I select the spell and the area/target (I played through all of PoE with no issue before I got Deadfire) but then they act as though I never gave that command.

I have deleted my save file. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game twice already. Same issue. I tried to write in to the PoE message boards on the developer site, but no help yet. Has anyone else run into this or has any ideas that I could try? I'm so excited to play this game, and so disappointed that this issue is so persistent. :(

That's an odd one. Sounds like a bug unless it's some kind of keypress issue... Got any peripherals hooked up you can try disconnecting? And... I always end up saying this, but try whitelisting the game folder in your antivirus, or upgrade your graphics drivers? Unity does weird things sometimes.

Can you tell us some of the specific spells you've got and are trying to cast?

Thanks for replying--it is really strange. I haven't come across anyone else with this issue yet.

There isn't anything else hooked up, no, and I can tell them to attack and they will do that (only while we're in battle, though I am also unable to attack an NPC out of battle for example).

It doesn't matter which spell it is. I've been playing a wizard, but I also had a priest (Xoti) and a wizard/rogue (Aloth) in my party, and none of the spells worked for any of them.

Can you use items? Fighter/rogue abilities?

A good question. I did not try to use items. I can't remember about the other class abilities. I just deleted everything (again) and am going to try to reinstall the game (again). I will report back with additional info.

None of the spells or abilities work--in my latest restart, I tried all three spells I start out with: Thrust of Tattered Veils, Arcane Assault, and Minoletta's Minor Missiles. I also tried the Visage of Death's Herald ability, but that didn't work either.

I can command her to attack (while in combat), but if I then try to cast a spell, she won't cast the spell and it cancels her attacking action--she just stands there.

I. Just. Literally do not know what to do. Thank you for trying to help. I'm really disappointed.

Sorry :( Not sure what else to try. Look in Device Manager and see if there are any odd peripherals installed, even if they're not plugged in?

Have you tried to verify gamefiles?
Also, which OS are you using?

Thanks for your help anyway. I'm running Windows 10. I have been trying everything I can think of for 2 weeks. I tried a bunch of stuff last night, and somehow it's working again! HOORAY! I'm honestly not sure what "fixed" it because I tried a bunch of things at once, but if it works, I'm happy and I can live with not knowing what it was at this point. Hopefully it doesn't happen again--I'll lose my mind. I super appreciate your responses! It was nice knowing someone else cared to try to help. :)

Hiyya. Unfortunately, I don't remember what I did as this was 3 years ago now. So sorry! It seems by what I wrote then that I wasn't even sure what fixed it at the time. I actually stopped playing it shortly after this time I think and haven't gone back to it. It'll probably happen again whenever I pick it back up lol, so if it does and I fix it, I'll post again here. Please anyone else who has this problem and fixes it share your solutions in this thread as well! I might need it too when I come back to this game
