Nemnok's quest is hilarious [spoiler]

I was doing the quest of saving the father's son from nemnok the false god. Most people I've seen on here kill Nemnok as he then pleads for his life and decides to become your pet. That's nice and all... but instead I decided to join the followers and choose the option "Chant "Nemnok, Nemnok" along with the rest of them. So I did this for a laugh and then realised he gives you a task to collect various grimoires from deadfire in exchange for legendary items. Pretty cool!

I'm wondering if it's possible to get all the items and then kill him. Or do you get all the items when you kill him anyway?

Promised to do quest, boy left, attacked him, then he breaks his amulet and hes really a tiny malicious imp that you have as a pet cause as my watcher said 'youre adorable'. He is the only pet ive seen that talks insulting you mostly "I hope your boat sinks" is my favorite of his lines

I found three legendary items in his chests after killing him (bow, shield and quarterstaff). Since everyone was hostile from the get-go, including Kaali, I never got a quest from him.

So he told you not to kill him but you did anyway? Or did you get no option?

Curious which legendaries you got. I can confirm that I got three legendaries from the chests behind him after subduing him and turning him into a pet.

do you have to kill him to get the legendary or just make him a pet
