Does might still determine spell damage?
I always found this weird in the first game. You can't really make a powerful mage who isn't also some Arnold Schwarzenegger lookalike that can rip plebs apart with his bare hands without even needing any magic.

I generally prefer my mages scrawny. ^^

Would have been better to make resolve the spellcasting damage stat since its really mental and not physical strength that should matter for things like that.

Btw, it seems might also affect firearms damage, or maybe I misunderstood it.

Yeah, it affects all damage that I know of in the first game. It's a bit ridiculous tbh. ^^

I guess when firing guns your give them an extra shake with your absurdly massive arms to make the bullets travel even faster. ^^

Perfectly logical, I'm telling you. I'll be concerned when it will affect the damages of orbital weapons.

Just think of it as "Brain Muscle"

Yep. From what I read during development they were going to try to implement it like Tyranny but I guess it never panned out. Kind of irks me.
I always saw the Might=Damage thing as just an expansion on how the soul is an active thing in the setting and that a lot of abilities in the game (even seemingly mundane ones, like a Fighter's Knockdown) is channelling your soul in particular ways. At the very least, it makes it easier to understand the physics behind an ordinary human being able to knock an Ogre or the like down - they're putting their soul into the hit.

So if I had a high Might Wizard in PoE1, I didn't see that as raw physical strength, but that he was good at channelling his soul's energy into augmenting what physical strength he had. And, most of the time, that energy would be channelled into his spells to make them hit harder, but there's nothing stopping him from pumping it into his arms to hoist a guy up by the collar to shout into his face.

What makes you so dead-set on the idea that "might" means PHYSICAL might? There is also intellectual might, you know...
And yes, it affects all damage output in the 2nd one as well

That was my thinking with my theory in my last post; your Might stat is a combination of your physical strength and how much spiritual energy you can channel through your limbs/weapons/spells/etc for the purposes of exerting force on something. The actual ratio of physical strength to spiritual strength might vary a lot (so a Fighter might have their Might stat represent more raw muscle and only a bit of spiritual augmentation, while a Wizard would be the other way around).

Doesn’t explain increased damage from firearms, for example. I have a different idea. In the end the damage we inflict depends not only on our ability, but on our willingness. So I suggest change the name of the stat as follows:
Stat: Murderous intent
Grades:
5 - faint at the sight of blood
10 - can dissect a frog without nausea
15 - willing to stab people and kinda enjoying the process
20 - REALLY sick mutha, who *loves* exploding heads and ♥♥♥♥

That’ll explain everything.

Well there is the concept of weaker character with amazing perception who will cause more critical hits which do more damage. The major change from number 1 is all spells becoming by encounter use rather than rest which is a little overpowered.

I'm ok treating might as "intellectual might" but then the game gives me a dialogue check and ruins it by giving me the option to punch a stone wall down. Give us rp nerds a check box to discern between brain might and brawn might. thatd work

Check the first post I made in this thread, two above the one you quoted. I mentioned it as channelling soul energy into your "limbs/weapons/spells/etc".
