Lone Survivor - Spoilers
So I saved him from the ruined city and when he departs he mentions to meet him in Port Maje and he'll make it worth my while. Found him fishing in Port Maje, but all he says is I'm a good soul and there is no dialog option. Have I missed something, or is this something which appears to be unfinished?

Like many other things it is unfinished, yes. Corporate scumbags were rushing the devs its super apparent when you get close to end game.

It's not super obvious, but he should have given you a couple of gemstones. If you check the combat log directly after speaking to him you should see it.

If you go there and talk to him he'll give you some cheap loot and say thanks, but there's no dialogue box or anything else to do with him.

Yea, the lone survivor felt a bit anticlimactic.

Honestly didn't notice getting any loot from him, but thanks for the replies!

Lol, here I thought I was the only one that felt this quest was such a sucker quest. You go and help this guy escape and he asks you to come find him at Port Maje...and for what? To hear him thank you again? Such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ let down of a quest conclusion. I figured they'd at least allow him to give you something more than just a one liner while he fishes. Hell, I'd take some fish if he was turning over a new leaf.

Obsidian needs to tighten up their belt. Pillars is a descent game, but jeez and cheese when a game like Baldurs Gate, aged as it is, had more complexity and depth. Especially for a quest like this I'd bet my vorpal toothpick BG would of done it better. Not this big let down, this and more than a few quests did...

Lone Survivor gave me a Greater Cloak of Defelction. It wasn't super obvious and I only realized it by glancing at the combat log. Not sure if the reward changes or is random.

i got a cloak of greater protection so its prolly random loot, maybe depends on your level?
Rhawkas May 22, 2018 @ 3:35pm
I got one of those two cloaks (can't remember which). Was alright, but I didn't really need it since all my people already had capes. Don't get what all the fuss is about. Were people expecting him to kick off some epic questline about how he wound up exploring the Old City and his journey to find a new life after you helped him or something? You just help him out, he tells you he'll pay you back if you meet him in Fort Maje and he does. I think people are blowing this out of proportion.
Dan May 23, 2018 @ 4:54am
Here's whats wrong, they shouldn't have written the quest that way if he literally wasn't going to pay you back at Fort Maje. It's not about the reward, it's about the implied content that was never there.

It was a big let down, ♥♥♥♥ block, whatever you want to call it. Lazy writing or even story building/content building. Not as bad as the Serafen companion quest line though. Now that was a big let down as well. So yeah, same issues throughout the game with a lot of the quests. Implied, gassed up, and at the end...nadda. That's the complaint. Not about a cape, or gems, or anything of the sort. Sounds like politicians and their empty promises.

If someone says they will reward you and then they reward you, any additional unmet expectations are your own creation and problem

The corporate scumbag argument holds no water given every single game obsidian has ever made baring South Park has the same issues. The fact is obsidian has time and time again proven they can't release a finished polished game.

Did you not play this game or do the quest? He specifically says he'll reward you when you meet him at Port Maje, rather, "I'll make it worth your while, meet me at Port Maje". The issue isn't the fact you get gems or a cloak from saving him. The issue is, the writing with the quest suggests otherwise. Like no one did quality control checks on lots of the quest lines.

Again, like Serafen's companion quest. I saved Romero, I got into the boat fight with Malnaj. I kill her, it just ends. No resolution comments from Serafen, inability to loot the bodies. It literally just ends. For a major companion quest line, you would of figured it would of gone under the microscrope or comb before launch no? Nope.

None of the two issues I've mentioned above is even rare in the game. So many quests, leave me saying "wtf happened? That's it?" Like serioudly, is Obsidian running out of writers for quest content to make them a tad more...I don't know? Complete? And no, it's not some b.s expectation myself or others are magically conjuring up. The quests were written by the developers, and they fall far from what they conjured up in game for us. Not the other way around.

How do they suggest otherwise? He says he'll reward you, and he rewards you. The end.

The idea here is that endings fall flat in the game. It is not about the loot, or expecting something grand, it is about expecting SOMETHING, just anything at all. Traveling all the way back to Port Maje to get random loot without any sort of resoultion conversation is dumb. This particular quest would not be worth mentioning in a game that otherwise didn't have this problem frequently and/or in major questlines. However, this issue is both frequent and present in larger quest lines. In a game series that really tries to make unique companions, it is ridiculous that they shafted Serafen's quest.
