Ships: Junk or Galeon?
After long hours of skimping and selling almost everything I don't need I can finally buy great ship. But I'm not sure which one to choose as there are not much information in their descriptions. What are the differences (other than described at bay) between Junk and Galeon? For example, which one is faster and has more places for cannons?

Im using the junk it has great speed when upgraded and I have more than enough crew and guns to take on anything at a fair level or just above. Make a save and try out various configs of ships and see how you feel.

That's a great idea :-) I will do that, thx

Get the fastest ship and keep hitting full speed ahead till you're within distance to board them. You won't take damage from ramming them since you didn't ram them and most of the time you can clear past their minimum range so they keep missing you with cannons. Also you usually pick up enough repair supplies by doing the boarding action that you can repair whatever damage you possibly incurred.

Ok, I did a comparision just by buying them both.

Here is our first ship we acquire through quests:

The crucial information for me (and not included in the descriptions at vendor) was how fast the two can travel. As you can see, Junk is much faster in combat and travelling. IMO it looks worse on world map, but hey... It has better stats.

Thanks for that. Am glad I skipped right ahead and got the junk. Wish there were more battles at sea and a few more ways to make a cannon fight viable. At the moment as a poster said its said right into boarding range and getting them that way. Could almost sell all the cannons off and not need to ever worry about em but have the crew there for boarding anyway.

I see that I'm not the only one who thinks that way.. :/

You did not even need new ship. I have wiped out all big ships on map with the starting ship+ speed buff ubgrades by boarding.
With the starting ship you can win all ship battles with speed board ( need only ubgrades for speed) if your party is high enough for the battle then ( is not wise board a ship with lv 16 captain with lv 5 hero group, you stand aigans more than 10 lv 16 enemies, even if most of them are really crap for their lv)

You realise your junk is only faster than the galeon due to the upgrades and navigator right?
My galeon has combat speed 65 and travels speed 80, thx to crew and upgrades...

It is not just about stats. it is also about immersion and roleplay. This game leaves many options. Yes you can simply board other ships. when you give it a chance and try out cannons and try to sink the ship it is a lot of fun. It is more about your playstyle.

I think that simply minmaxing, just because you can will not provide a good gaming experience. These people complain becasue they have to many options, and only go for the easy win option. You should be open and experience the game in different ways to see what the developers intended to do.

Or you can just minmax everything and then complain that the ships make no sense because you can simply rush things...

i can only tell you to try out different playstyles.

Pirate ship (middle-tier, don't remember it's name, it's description mention that pirates love it) is the best.

I can hit 95 combat speed and 83 travel speed with best upgrades (navigator still lvl 3, so it's giving only +30%).

The entire pre-ship battle game could surely need a tweak - as it is now, you spend alot of time spamming the dialogue for getting even close for the fun (ship combat)

Another thing Id like to see, maybe longer down the road, is multie ships battleing instead of just 1on1.

Its strange that the highest level ship is a Junk. You guys know what a Junk is don't you . Its a Chinese Ship and they are generally not that big. Real strange.

4-5 turns mostly, I can't call it "a lot of time in dialogue".

You know - maybe better to choice&equip ship well-suited for boarding, and not use starter ship / most expensive ones ;)

For me they need to fix the boarding system , if you fight an take out most of the crew in a canon battle , when you board the ship has full crew , well , thats stupid , like i take my time and destroy the crew leaving the ship with 4/16 and when i board there is 15 guys wainting for me ....

It's don't matter anything since you will get ~6-7 companions, level up them all and give some good+ gear to everyone. Boarding get trully broken and extremly easy, even on PotD.
