Or is it 12 and 19?
Erh, did not really get these maths.
Look, lets take diplomacy and make an example.
Everyone in your party has 2 points in diplomacy skill.
You face a diplomacy check in conversation.
You have your own 2 points in this skill, plus you have 4 companions, each of them has 2 points in skill, that makes total of 8 points (4x2)
You end up with 2 (your own points) + 4 shared (8 points taken by all companions BUT you, because you pass the check yourself using your raw 2 points.) = 6 total points.
Another example - mechanics.
Eder has 6 points in mechanics. Rest of the party members, including your player character, have 4 points each.
Eder tries to unlock a box.
He has 6 skill points of his own + 6 (4x4=16 points taken by other party members. 16 points mean 6 points shared) = 12 total points. 6 own, 6 shared.
it checks full points of the person who triggers the check, and this person has bonuses coming from 4 other party members.
By the way, that might be a bug, though, but sometimes in order to activate party bonuses you have to position your party very close to NPC you are talking to.
And as far as I can remember I have seen 1 or 2 personal checks, but can't say for sure, really, whether that was a bug or game designed feature
