You will be squishy early game until you get some gear. Multiclasses in general have slow start. But that's why you have Edér to tank for you (do NOT make him a swashbuckler as well).
You also have amazing mobility and invisibility from the rogue side. So you can run if things turn bad. Or you can make use of the backstab talent and sneak up on wizards to tear them into pieces.
You can go dual wield or single weapon style. Dual wield probably has more DPS but i prefer the single weapon style for flavor and crits. Also, the pistol proficiency ability halves your reload at the cost of accuracy. But if you use a single one the accuracy bonus will cancel out the debuff so you can spam your pistol at double the firerate. Makes for a nice backup weapon.
There's a simple rule of thumb when going through the first playthrough. Do not dump any stats because you do not fully understand their importance yet. Especially not int that will nerf your duration abilities hard and debuff your already abysmal will saves.
Do not get married to a weapon type because that will seriously ruin the joy of finding new loot. So no Devoted either. I love single weapon style for the synergy with single pistol... with Devoted that would never happen, where's the fun in that.
So if you're in doubt just roll clean Fighter + clean Rogue. It's not like tha game is that hard.
On the other hand I rolled a devoted battlemage with staff to combo with the staff summon spells (meh, not as op as in the first game but still really good damage) and don’t really regret it. I could have picked any weapon and be just as well off.
Daggers because they give deflection with the modal.
You could even try Rogue/Fighter and grab some more deflection/tanky stuff.
So, if your chosen weapon is suddenly useless, it screws a devout Rogue/Fighter a lot more than it does a Battlemage.
Streetfighter needs to be surrounded and at half life to get the class bonus. This shouldnt happen to you if you are stealthily taking out backline casters. I personally went Devoted and Assassin.
