Swashbuckler build
I'm having a difficult time deciding on how to build a swashbuckler. The game suggests I put points into resolve but I'm not totally convinced I would need resolve as a rogue type character. Any suggestions? If it helps, I'd prefer to be more focused on dps, but I also don't want to go down in 1 hit.

Resolve is a tank stat, to increase you chance of blocking a hit. If you not planning on getting hits, you may as well ignore the stat, because if you keep it at "mediocre" level, it not gonna work very well anyway. I built my rouge into perception, for crits, and lesser chance of getting deleted by aoe (also finding secrets and perception checks in dialogs and encounters).

Makes sense. Thanks for your input.

What you want is Might, Dexterity and Perception. Since you're playing the rogue in the party I assume you'll want to pick up mechanics for lockpicking. Having high perception helps with your accuracy and also allows you to detect traps and hidden spots. An no companions have high perception early in the game so it's on you.

You will be squishy early game until you get some gear. Multiclasses in general have slow start. But that's why you have Edér to tank for you (do NOT make him a swashbuckler as well).

You also have amazing mobility and invisibility from the rogue side. So you can run if things turn bad. Or you can make use of the backstab talent and sneak up on wizards to tear them into pieces.

You can go dual wield or single weapon style. Dual wield probably has more DPS but i prefer the single weapon style for flavor and crits. Also, the pistol proficiency ability halves your reload at the cost of accuracy. But if you use a single one the accuracy bonus will cancel out the debuff so you can spam your pistol at double the firerate. Makes for a nice backup weapon.

Fighter (Devoted) + Rogue(Streetfighter) with something like 10-7-18-18-5-19 is the best choice here. You need Resolve if you wish to survive in the thick of it and streetfighter is all about that.

Well this is the issue I'm running into, I see conflicting information for both sides. I was planning on doing devoted fighter and streetfighter rogue. I was going to use the build to take out back line mages and archers, so would assassin be a better pick? Too many choices! I've been trying to create my character for the past 3 hours lol.

I think Ranger does much better job at blowing away enemy mages and archers than any kind of melee character.

There's a simple rule of thumb when going through the first playthrough. Do not dump any stats because you do not fully understand their importance yet. Especially not int that will nerf your duration abilities hard and debuff your already abysmal will saves.

Do not get married to a weapon type because that will seriously ruin the joy of finding new loot. So no Devoted either. I love single weapon style for the synergy with single pistol... with Devoted that would never happen, where's the fun in that.

So if you're in doubt just roll clean Fighter + clean Rogue. It's not like tha game is that hard.

Unless you have a really specific idea for a character I’d say to avoid devoted on a first run too. No penalty for no weapon proficiency is so good in this kind of game.

On the other hand I rolled a devoted battlemage with staff to combo with the staff summon spells (meh, not as op as in the first game but still really good damage) and don’t really regret it. I could have picked any weapon and be just as well off.

Well, you could try a rogue tank. Rogue gets a passive that if someone misses then in combat with a melee attack they attack back. So go dual Daggers or dagger/shield and high Deflection and be an offensive tank.

Daggers because they give deflection with the modal.

You could even try Rogue/Fighter and grab some more deflection/tanky stuff.

Battlemage doesn't get hit nearly as hard, since he has actual spells - may be less of a selection than pure wizard, but, with grimoire collection, he is still quite versatile.

So, if your chosen weapon is suddenly useless, it screws a devout Rogue/Fighter a lot more than it does a Battlemage.

So if I pick one of the defensive stats (constituion and resolve), which one should I invest in? As of right now I have my swashbuckler with 15, 10, 14, 15, 10, 14. Should I switch resolve with constitution?

Streetfighter needs to be surrounded and at half life to get the class bonus. This shouldnt happen to you if you are stealthily taking out backline casters. I personally went Devoted and Assassin.
