However, I was able to win the Neri fight, no problem. It was clutch towards the end, but I feel that's how a dragon fight should be. Honestly, I prefer the DR system from the first game, because less immunities left your choices more valid, but I haven't run into too much that left me pulling my hair out.
I do feel you about spell penetration and damage being exceedingly imbalanced, however, and there's a lot that's not taken into consideration in terms of informing the players. For instance, using blightheart to gain extra corrosive damage to my spells had the game constantly telling me that Nin's Killing Bolt (Raw damage, therefore no pen) was not penetrating. A majority of my spells had my character nagging me about not being able to get though. Still, let's reserve judgment until some time after Turn Based Mode is declared finished :)
The game is created with massive scripted content in mind. If it was created with endless, randomized generated content in mind, I think there was more done on the balance side to make it interesting. Now to make the game interesting, there is a hell of a lot of scripted discussion and story and whatnot, which is kind of interesting, but in the end, I personally play it for the combat and party leveling fun with the looting and whatnot, and that side is not even nearly as good as it could be.
