Fine Great Sword > Whispers of the Endless Path?
Why is the damage for a generic Fine great sword actually greater than a exceptional Whispers? Is this some sort of balance due to the inherent abilities? or Just a querk?

Because whispers of the endless path hits in a 45 degree aoe arc instead of 1 target only. Good for hitting multiple targets

The cone AOE is just not worth it, in my opinion. People may disagree, but I don't find the 1 extra pen to be too great, nor did I find the cone reliable - it's just not big enough. I swapped Pallegina to a superb greatsword or a pollaxe and all of a sudden she's critting for 100+.

unless you upgraded the WotEP to superb then yeah superb greatsword has more acc means hitting more often and critting more often compare to base WotEP.

The cone AoE seems to scale with Int. My Cipher has gotten a LOT of mileage out of WotEP, especially with the bonus attack speed.

The general consensus seems to be that the weapon just plain sucks. The AOE will also hit your allies so youll have to treat whoever uses it with care, and position them accordingly. The damage is a joke, and two-handed weapons are already pretty lackluster. Dual wielding always does more damage, and the gimped damage on this weapon on top of that makes it just bad.

Situationally Im sure it can be used efficiently, but there are far better weapons and I guarantee itll be banished to the recesses of your stash within a short amount of time. Dont get it.

The AoE is in yellow - No friendly fire.

In a target rich environment it's going to outperform other weapons. It just sucks 1v1

This.

Also, if you go with a Soul Blade, you can AoE it, and that damage DOESN'T get divided up.
