To keep Eder, or not
Just bought the game and starting my first run. My own character will be a tank and I never use rogues. So it's looking like Eder won't be part of the group. My question is, do I lose/miss out on anything by not having him in the party?

A lot of roleplaying content. He's one of the fan favourite NPCs, he's pretty funny, and he's got one of the more direct connections to the main villain in this case. But mechanically, no, it doesn't sound like it.

Fighters are pretty versatile, though, you could always make him into a damage dealer rather than a tank. Or there are a bunch of mods in the workshop that let you change companion classes. Won't affect achievements if you care about that kind of thing.

The same thing as any of the 8 companions, you'll miss out on their personal side quest and just random banter between party members. And just commentary from Eder during quests, specifically the main quest and DLC quests , as he has a link to eothas (he's a worshipper of eothas who went to war against eothas when he inhabited waidwen body, and depending on his quest ending from the first game, he'll either be pro eothas or anti eothas).

Thanks both of you. Sounds like it might be cool to have him for RP reasons. I didn't know about class change mods. How do I find them?

You can go to the game's Workshop from its page in your library. You'll want to select Mods rather than Characters to browse some of the options. Most of the class swap mods were done by just the one user, though, Caelum: https://steamcommunity.com/id/kohwalter/myworkshopfiles/?appid=560130

I find eder is kind of a mix of having good values, but he is still an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Plus, he is the only main class fighter, and I love having him as my wingman in melee fights. He is very efficient and hard to kill.

I understand the "not stealing" attitude, but you also never disable traps, which there are several deadly ones in this game?

By the way, you have a few characters that you can multiclass as rogue, but Edér is the earliest opportunity you get.

Sure, if you wanna be stuck with the notion that only rogues are allowed to do that job. The only advantage they have for that task is +2 starting Mechanics skill, and they're not even alone there (ciphers have it too).

I would assume OP meant they don't enjoy using the dirty tricks class rather than "I intend to set off every trap in the game" :P

You are right, of course - in this game, you can level any character in Mechanics. I just believe that it's wasted on non-rogues, because the other classes can make better use of other abilities. I usually select what fits the character. Call me old-fashioned. ;P

Rekke.

But it's not like you are going to get him so soon if you don't look up for his location. I found him at level 20.
