Which companions for exploring Neketaka?
Who should I have in the party while I explore Neketaka for fun/interesting dialogue?

I should probably mention, since the companions can randomly have interesting dialogue if you take em around town, switching up your party at the Wild Mare a bunch might be enjoyable if you are interested to see how they interact with each other.

I'll just list out the companions that I know SHOULD NOT be together to avoid fights breaking out within the party (some of em just don't get along):

Tekehu + Xoti
Tekehu + Aloth
Tekehu + Pallegina
Tekehu + Maia (Although as long as no conversations involving the Huana show up, these two won't get annoyed by each other)
Serafen + Aloth
Xoti + Pallegina

...and this is why Eder is best boy, dude gets along with everyone and takes any insult upon him in stride. Tekehu tends to offend a lot of the companions so sometimes I take a sidekick or a created character to take up the empty slot.

Also if you're going to interact with faction quests beware that having members from opposing factions in the party may get two companions annoyed of each other, or may have that member annoyed of the Watcher (ex. I took bounties on pirates in front of Serafen and he obviously got a bit annoyed by it lol)

Personally I like the random banter between Eder + Serafen, but Eder + Tekehu has one particular dialogue involving the worship of Ondra/Ngati that had me laughing.

Most will likely say Aquaman, but i found him to be insufferable. Just saying.
I haven't found the water lover yet but Aloth had a funny bit when he ran into an old friend that now works at the brothel

Old "friend".

Honestly, the companions in PoE2 are bland in comparison to the first game. Serafen is alright, as are Aloth and Peligina, but for the most part they are empty husks that just so happy to follow you around and lend a hand in various tasks.

Check the quest journal, they mark which companions are recommended for which quest. It basically notes which one has important dialogue for which quest.

Which, on a side note, is extremely helpful. Especially when it mentions that Ydwin (a sidekick of all things!) is a recommended companion for Beasts of Winter. I wouldn't have figured that out on my own.

Thanks for the tip. I'm wondering who I should include for a stroll around town, but if the companions don't have much interaction with the locals then I'm a little dissapointed.

Only Aquaman has any meaningful dialog. Maia also has some I think, but its not much.

Awful:
Xoti - annoying outlandish accent that doesn't belong in the game's theme and setting
Eder - they made eder in poe2 like a sappy bisch, he can be quite sulky as well as being extremely religious or extremely skeptical about god (depends on your poe1 choices)
Tekehu - is way too obnoxious for me, some people may like him but he is too much for me
Pallegina - when Eder only talks about religion, Pallegina only talks about being VTC's errand girl

Good:
Maia - best grill hands down, serious and stern with sprinkles of humor
Aloth - i like his cocky humor and he is not as obnoxious as Tekehu
Serafen - i like him for not being pc, they could have pushed the boundaries a little bit more

Honestly, I'm disappointed by poe2 companions. The sidekicks were actually better and made more of an impact on me. I wish they made Ydwin (possibly a vampire?), Rekke (has a really awesome introductory scene) and Mirke (serafen but better) full fledged companions because they had more personality as sidekicks in comparison to the majority of poe2 companions.

Yeah, I'm with you on the companions. We are almost year in and I still don't understand what was the point of sidekicks.

And yeah, I don't understand why they decided to make Ydwin and Rekke sidekicks instead of full companions aside from "we've ran out of money", while at the same time keeping such redundant companions as Pallegina or Aloth. Their story hooks were really damn good.

Beacuse I can't see why Ydwin cannot be a Vailian "faction representative" if it's so important. I would argue it would've made for a much more interesting story arc, given that Ydwin holds no loyalty to VTC and she's here for their animancer knowledge and luminous adra in order to survive and VTC has both. There could've been a good story there.
