I dont think so, and dont worry sometimes you'll make choices that your companions just dont like. luckily negatives here and there wont hold you back
though i think certain quests or gift items from companions wont trigger if you dont get them at a certain affinity lv( some one please correct me if im wrong on this if you would.)
remember Xoti's preferences in her reputation page, she hates anti-religion but loves humor, luckily the game gives you plenty of opportunties to crack wise, so you can easily bridge the gap and raise easy affinity. humor raises alot of companions affinity now that i think about it.
as for Eder? he is your bro he will stick you wiht you through whatever, just dont kick puppies, LITERALLY be kind to animals around him, he is your man.
hope that helps, please take care and have a good day.
You can always hire an adventurer if a companion leaves. I've never had one do that but, as I said in the edit, I either play "beneficial" or "rational" so it's far less likely than with your playstyle.
There are romances. They are controversial. IMO most of the romanceable companions jump on you far too easily (like, sometimes in your first convo with them). Aloth is much more difficult.
Was never a much of a fan of Aloth .. stayed in the group till I completed his Story .. then dumped him out in PoE ... Team was mostly Fighter, Paladin, Ranger, Druid, Priest and me the wizard, except when I was doing the other companions story quest..
The companions in PoE2 are probably the worst written in any cRPG to date. Completely one dimensional and most importantly: zero character development. One of them, Teheku, doesn't even have a person quest. Having said that, it's pretty easy to please them all if you want to. I wouldn't worry too much and play the game the way you want, them leaving is not so bad.
very false but okay!
like feral said, shes a firm believer in the gods, course she wont be pleased if u keep talking smack about them
but unfortunetely the reputation "values" are bit messed up IMO, devs could stand to tweak them a bit to avoid scenarios like the one feral mentioned of characters jumping on u to start romance on ur 1st convo with them
Isn't that exactly what zero character development is though? She'll always be a firm believer/crazy zealot. There's no convincing her, or any other companions for that matter, to change their opinions or infuence their personalities. If you push them too much, they'll leave so you gotta say exactly what they want to hear. They don't grow and change, they stay exactly the same throughout the entire game. Doesn't mean that has to be a negative, but to me personally, it is.
theres a difference between influencing how a character develops *or* their post-game fate and having the protagonist re-shape every companion they meet according to their whims
the later is bad writing
believe it or not if u just keep pushing real people they'll also prolly just get away from you
im not gonna pretend PoE2 has any ground breaking companion relationships or anything, the way we influence our companions is pretty binary, but saying characters have zero development is also ridiculous
To OP,
Don't mind Dorok. He is the poster clown of the poe2 forums always spouting nonsense just to rile people up. He is also a fanboy through and through and is blind of the game's flaws. He always praises the game but never criticizes it. Dorok is in some bizzarro dreamland, best avoid.
That said, the companions in the game are written awfully indeed but you should know that by now since you have played the game and seem to have a discerning eye for detail.
Agreed. I hate in Bioware games how casually you can alter a characters entire identity.
Zahua, Tekehu, Durance, Pallegina, Xoti, and even Vatnir handle it much more realistically.
Well, reshaping a companion wouldn't be great either, but that's not what I meant.
In real life, don't you ever change your opionion, after talking to different people? Isn't that inherent to what people are? They shift and change, depending on new information they get in life. In PoE2 however, every companion only has 2 options: they stay deadfast with their own opinion and they'll leave you when you try to talk to them, or they do a complete 180 and completely switch over to the 'other side' without any nuance whatsoever. That's not character progression, that's just picking 1 of 2 options. Xoti is probably the worst companion, but what they did with Eder is even more strange. Eder's personal quest makes it seem like he has a son, which would mean an obvious shift in personality, but at the end it turns out he doesn't have a son after all, so he just reaches a status quo. How does he grow, adapt, or have any sort of development? This is the first Obsidian game where the choices are practically non existent. Again: that doesn't have to be a bad thing for an ARPG, but for a CRPG, it simply doesn't fit.
In BG2 for example, your companion Keldorn's wife cheats on him.. He wants to set out and kill his wife's lover, and you can engage that, or you could try to convince him otherwise. If he kills him, he becomes a bitter, angry, depressed man. If he spares him, he becomes a rightious, brave, honorable one. That's character progression. He changes and continues to do so, throughout the rest of the game, in subtle ways that are not noticable until a second playthrough. You, as the player, can subtly influence him, just like you can do in real life with every interaction you have with the people around you. In PoE2, the companions have a set path, which they can't differ from, and they don't grow, change, or adapt. They're either 'evil' or 'good'. There's no subtlety or grey area, which is what Obsidian games are usually known for. In PoE2, they're stereotypes, parodies, cartoon figures who reach a status quo after every new episode. I do think that's bad writing, but that's a personal opinion. You don't have to take my word for it.
Dorok, I've explained in detail why I think the companions don't have any character development. That's not hate. Hate would be what you just tried to say, in your weird broken English language. You never go into detail or try to explain your strange opinions, because they don't make any sense and I doubt you even know yourself. There's no point in discussing anything with you, because you simply don't understand what people are saying and chimp out at every chance you get. I have no respect for people like you, because you're only out to dispute arguments without bringing up any counter ones. The buyer's remorse with you is incredible. I genuinely think you're dumb.
yes, and in what game do we have the nuance of characters that change THAT deeply based on our choices DURING the game? i dont recall much about keldorn from BG2 since i never really liked old D&D paladins, found them annoying personally
we've have this discussion before and i recall my viconia example: even if u get into a relationship with her and turn her 'aligment' to true neutral(from neutral evil) she doesnt really change in how she behaves or talks, her post-game fate changes, sure, but until the game ends shes still viconia
lets use other examples: leliana from dragon age origins, regardless of how u develop ur relationship with her, romantic or not, positive or not, the way she acts doesnt change to match her other dialogue that exists outside of how she develops, for example party banter; yet another example: boone from New Vegas, lad can either become a blood-thirsty soldier or a calmer man who wants to help people, but after u finish his quest, all u have to show for it is what armor u got from said quest, because regardless of the outcome of his quest, he is still boone
this is pretty standard for games like this and idk where you are getting your standards from, characters tend to only really see the big change that would come from their personal quests AFTER the game, because writing in, voicing and coding dialogue for each way a character may develop is a lot of work, like obisidian could have tried this, but it would prolly mean a lot less voice acting, which while fine or even great for some, would be a huge let down for others
That's so ridiculous, sure go change the mind of someone very religious, it's incredible how some can lost all contact with reality.
Anyway a character writing is also a character writing, you can't change opinions of characters in a novel, it doesn't change they have a writing quality.
What's very obvious is companions in PoE2 are much more developed, quite better written, quite more attaching than those of PoE1.
It's not some hateful kid that will change it, and the kid, stop answer my posts and argue you can't understand anything, you are more and more ridiculous, and with an obvious lack of imagination.
