Point of No Return for Romance?
So I just had my first romanic run in and I was wondering: What is the point of no return for romance in the game? I'm gathering, based on stuff I've read, that you can only romance one character (but you can break up with them)... But, I've not found info on the point of no return that locks you in.

Any insight/info would be helpful. Thanks!

As far as I know there isnt a point of no return. You can break up any time (Except Aloth. There was no option to break up, so he locks after the +2 dialog). Keep in mind that rejecting someone once is final so breaking up with someone wont open an other romance you turned down.

Edit: So you can reach +2 with X, start a romance, break up, reach +2 with Y, start a romance with Y. But if you reached +2 with X, romanced them, reached +2 with Y while in romance with X, then break up with X... Y wont be available.

Its been a while and theres been patches so this may not be accurate.

Okay, so I just had my first encounter with the "pretty fish" where a certain... someone... threatened me (no suprise there). I'm still not sold on if I want to romance them or Aloth.

So, at this point, if I get prompted for another romance dialog with Tekehu, I need to do my best to avoid it at all costs?

(BTW, the Romance for Tekehu went SUPER fast. I've not even made it out of the city yet... o_o)

Tekehu is rather hot and ready for that so it makes sense it's super fast.

But don't hope anything developed, with Xoti there wasn't much either. It's just a feature to be in feature list of the game, don't buy/play it for the romances, it's low quality.

It's more a roleplay option that is present but not much developed by the game (most will need be from your mind).

Not "playing it for the romance", but I also don't want to get locked into anything without knowing I'm getting locked in. It seems every game that has some sort of romance option does it all differently. Some give you a hard "this is going to lock you into a romance", others you don't even KNOW you are in a relationship with someone until you start to try and get into one with someone you settle on trying out.

Just wanted to know if there were any hard limits to look for so I don't unwittingly step past the line so to speak. :)

Romances are clearly just a feature so you can build stuff around it yourself.

What youre getting into. Spoilers follow.

The fish is cute and flashy and will take initiative and will take it all the way. Aloth is cute and shy and needs you too take initiative and will give you a disney romance

I think that you can have the 2nd dialog with the fish and break his heart later and get together with someone else. You can definetely break up with him after the 2nd dialog and piss off his mom. You unworthy pig that hurt her baby!

Edit: The romances can all be super fast cause theyre just triggered by the relationship number. Wish they had spaced them better. Like give it sooome time... we just met!

Exactly! Or have in some sort of code to seperate it like... "After leaving port X, traveling X days, trigger X romance conversation." Even that would work. Or upping the relationship number... something.
Oh, btw, is there any sort of reprocusion for breaking up with someone? Like, will they leave your party/be pissy in conversation/whatever?

He is quick. But Maia was even quicker for me. She hit on me almost immediately after we left the Palace when she first joined. We went to the Brass Citadel with the party and she hit on me. We literally had just met. I have no idea how the relationship got that positive so quickly.

I agree with what you and Brian said that they really need to space it out more and let you spend at least a bit of actual playtime with the character before they start talking about romance.

It would be nice if you could have a romance with a character who you'd turned down before. For some reason, after Maia hit on me, a couple of other companions did the same a bit later (in that same day or the next one). It was probably a coincidence but it is probably also not that unusual for the companions to reach 2 at around the same time. So, several ppl hit on me at once, then nothing for a long time. It seemed very artificial or maybe there had been something in the food or water.
