Disarming Traps Basics
I just started the game and gave my main +1 mechanics the first time he leveled, but I still get mauled by traps because I can't figure out how to disarm one. Can you help?

You need to have someone with enough Perception to spot them first. Nothing else matters when it comes to spotting traps.

Given that you have spotted them, your mechanics may be too low?

Perception is the only thing required to spot traps. Don't need to be stealthed like first game or anything like that. Once a trap is spotted you click on them the same way you would any container to disarm. If you have enough mechanics skill you'll disarm it.

Your pointer changes when its over a visible trap so you'll know the right spot to click.

I belive there is a party boost for this skill so you might give every member of your party at least one point.
Do they still have the party assist aura? Or did they increase it so it's not a problem anymore? So if the team was too far away, you'd not get the assist.

And +1 is nothing

Thanks! I guess my problem was that I was clicking on the trap and expecting my toon to walk up to it and disarm it. It seems the best technique is a two-step one: Place the toon NEXT TO the trap and THEN click on it to disarm.

That really doesn't matter. If your entire party is selected and you click on a lock or trap, the member with the best Mechanics skill will run over and disarm/unlock it.

Edit- sometimes with floor traps, the game decides a character needs to stand in a certain spot to disarm, and the AI pathing will walk them over part of the trap to get there, but with a bit of care that can be avoided.
