Steam drm-free or not?
Hello,
With the first game of Pillars of Eternity I'm able to download the game with steam and play it without steam installed.
I just want to know if Pillars of Eternity II is still drm-free on steam or not.
I'm a backer so I need to pick gog or steam... usually I prefer gog, but since this is a new game that will get lot's of updates I think steam is better in this case (only if I can start the game without it).

Thank you.

With GOG galaxy you can update pretty much the same way as with steam, but unlike in steam, you can explicitly disable updates for particular game and often revert version or two if this causes problems for you (did that with Divinity Original Sin 2 and it just tells me that I can update if I want to.

Just buy it from GOG. That is guaranteed to have no DRM.

With GOG you can buy a game, uninstall GOG, then still play any games downloaded from them (GOG) wherever the games were installed to.

Steam you can not. Must have steam unless it's an MMO or subscription-based game then those games will still work even with Steam uninstalled.

You don't even need to install GoG in order to even download and install the game

Yes, I know. Was just keeping in context of thread opener.

Huh? Ok... well, having a hard time believing that. You may not be lying out right but are you *sure* you can do that? Maybe you're mixing PoE up with something else.

GoG will get all the updates that Steam will get, and like with Tyranny/PoE the updates were on the same day as Steams.
So buy the GoG version.

Also I have the Steam version of PoE, and it never let me play without Steam, so how were you able to play without Steam? Yes, I ran it from the executable of the game and it still automatically loaded up Steam.

Sorry everyone I forgot this topic for a while.

- I know that I can select the gog version, usually I do that. But when I have to update multiple times a game steam is more easy to use. I really don't like clients in general, but if I decide for gog I will not use gog galaxy (at that point the browser is much better).

- I don't know why you cannot start Pillars of Eternity 1 without Steam, I was able to do that with the mac and linux version some times ago, and I'm able to do the same with Windows version right now. It just start the game. Maybe you start it from a link that start steam I don't really know, I'm just sure I can and the game is also in a list online of drm-free games on steam

I also wrote a mail to Obsidian, but if they will not send an answer I will just pick the gog version.
