Customizing companions' job classes after recruiting them
I am anticipating the companions will have a preselected starting job class when you first meet or encounter them, but could you please allow us the option to change their job classes after recruiting them? Is this possible, I mean, are there character animations or abilities designed specifically for unique companions?

The reason for this request of mine is because there will be 55 combinations of job classes (not to mention another 11 for pure job classes), so if you lock in job classes, the only way we could further experiment with this most interesting feature of your game is from the main character's creation at the start of the game or recruiting custom henchmen aka. non-story based characters. We could still hire henchmen I guess, but from my POE1 playthrough, I always had story based characters in my team, I only had one custom henchman in my team all throughout. The reason for this is because story based characters have some unique banters and comments in the game, and you would miss them if they were not on the team.

Maybe you could add a personalized tome or scroll of "reawakening" that could reset the companions' job classes. It would be in their inventory when they first join you, and it can't be sold, so you either use it or throw it away (if you are content with the companion's job class combination). I know in Baldur's Gate 2, companions come with preselected job classes, that's why I wish it to be optional with the use of a tome. Maybe you want to recreate the BG2 feel in the game, so you don't use the tome. Or maybe you are replaying the game and want to try out a different playstyle, you could then use the tome on the companions.

Apparently each companion and sidekick has three options to choose from. Not sure exactly how or when you get to make your choice/decision yet.

Some can be one of two single class options or the mutli-class combo of the two. Eder is one of those, he can be a Fighter, a Rogue or a Swashbuckler (fighter + rogue)

Some can be one single class or one of two multi-class combos derived from that class. Aloth is one of those. He can be a straight Wizard or he can be a Battlemage (Wizard + Fighter) or Spellblade (Wizard + Rogue)

This is the full list of options - I suppose this might be considered a spoiler but it's been up on the Obsidian no-spoiler board for a while and nobody seems to be batting an eyelid.:

I guess with the complexity of the multi-class system and the fact you have to make your deision on your main from the get go and you have only a five char party it makes sense you know all this in advance so you can plan your party synergy properly.

Note: the top seven are classed as companions ther rest are side kicks. You get backstories, quests, relationships and romances etc with the companions but not the sidekicks, that's apparently the difference.

If you want to fully customize your ccompanions, then you'll have to use mods or the console commands.

@Gregorovitch Thanks for the clarification. I'm glad they had the foresight and added it lol. :steamhappy: It's a buy for me then.

@Bob3 I checked if there are console commands for POE1, and it did have one for changing classes. I didn't know it was possible to change the companion's classes. Most likely it will be in POE2 as well. Thanks for the tip.
