Melee Psyblade(Soulblade Cipher) vs Melee Seer(Stalker Ranger)
So I've been trying to decide between rolling Cipher(Soulblade)/Ranger(Stalker) or a Cipher Soulblade/Fighter.
I played as a melee based Cipher in the first game focused around weapon damage and utilizing self buffs+debuffs.

With the addition of multiclassing I found myself debating between these 2 combinations for Deadfire, I find both greatly appealing wanted to know if anyone else thought the ranger combo could function well. I know the fighter combo would clearly offer strong boosts to my durability and such but I feel like the Ranger combo could offer some interesting utility.
So I was hoping to get some input on pros/cons between the 2 and possibly areas to set stats(excluding background history choices) as I have certain things in mind for personal rp reasons.
Thanks in in advance.

I went with cipher/rogue (assassin). Though I am ranged, might be too squishy for melee.

I know in the first Pillars Cipher in melee worked fine, and I'm sure multi classed with Fighter it would, the Ranger combo I'm most curious about partially because I'd like to try for a melee pet class type of feel that was using the Cipher's self buffs to fight in close range.
I have no intention of going full blown tank especially with the Ranger combo, I plan to utilize a companion for that.
The main trouble here is that melee cypher is extremely hungry for all attributes, no dump stats at all. He needs high STR send DEX, and at least normal 10 PER to deal damage in order to gain focus, high INT for casting any non-offensive spell and decent CON/RES to stay alive while at it. As a result your character will be mediocre at everything.

Also his second subclass has a great synergy with rogue, both in a fight and out of it.
Fighter is pretty good too, as it gives you survivability and damage.
Ranger is a bit more tank-orientied class right now, although the beast gives you some nice tactical advantage with friendly targeted spells.
Barbarian would be pretty good choice as well, and a chanter.

I'd say it's a matter of preference (and your desire to limit the amount of micromanaging at some point) rather than efficiency.

I went Cipher/Fighter(Psyblade) and just dumped int. I was more concerned with the cipher soul lash melee mechanics and the cipher RP options. Getting to throw out a cipher spell attack once in awhile still works fine. Seems pretty awesome to me.

I feel like I'd want to try to avoid dumping Int if only to keep my cipher related buffs up longer. For the fighter abilities I'd probably be fine and I suspect the Ranger ones as well wouldn't need Int as much as Might.

Has anyone by chance tried the Seer combo yet? Curious how it plays compared to a Psyblade
