do i need to play part 1?
Not "should i" do i need to?

Been joneing for an rpg, i dont really mess with kickstarter games so i skipped the first one, but since it made it to a second i am interested, if i jump into this game will i be completely lost because the story literally picks up after the second or is it stand alone?

Well you can choose a variety of choices for your playthrough. So i guess, watch some recap vid, read the different ending and story in wikipedia and make the decision at the beginning of the game? dont miss out

They bring you up to speed enough to play the game right in the beginning. There are some easter egg type things and other references throughout that you might be lost on, but nothing big from what I've watched so far. Conversations with original party members bring you up to speed. You're good

(but i'd still get the first one because it's great...)

I would say yes if you got the time but u don't have to. You get abit of a recap of the first game when you start up poe 2 tho. but you will understand the story better and everything about the world, companions, the gods etc.. if you playthrough the first game.

No thats the rule for almost all sequels in almost all franchises big or small. The first starts and do not end in a cliffhanger. The second game is in a completely new setting aswell with new stuff. However it usually helps to play the prequel titles to get a better grasp of the universe, lore and world. In this case you can also import saves like in Witcher, Mass effect etc. if you have played the first game. Otherwise to answer your question no theres usually no need ever. :) And as others have stated you get to pick game 1 decisions if you play a new game.

Sequels are typically independent. Cutting out a portion of the potential audience doesn't make for good business.

You'll be fine jumping in.

No complete voice was turn off for me , DOS2 and DOS1 remaster spoiled me !

It breaks immersion since u can't judge character's personality completely by reading wall of text .

I am going to watch recap and get POE 2 !

PoE has voice, it's just not fully voiced,
Important dialogue by your companions and important NPCs are all voiced, where-as the further questions like "Well what are your thoughts on this random different thing?" are usually text.

The voice acting for characters like Durance from PoE 1 were some of the best things about them.

I used to agree with that, but i like the partial voices, it does allow the devs to do things you cant do if it was fully voiced.

I think a good middleground is kotor, i think when they started voicing the player character is when they started messing up.
