What is the maximum skill level check?
It can't be then, perhaps 20?

I've seen a few skills checks for 17 and an attribute check for 20.

It's hard to say and probably dependent on the particular skill, difficulty setting and the level of the party (if level scaling is implemented). For mechanics 18 (including party assist) is the highest check I saw on a PotD run for unlocking a door at level 20.

I hope that helps a bit.

Could you guys enlighten me on whether you can somehow change qattributes of your companions, for instance to max out their dexterity and such?

As for skills, from what I gather only 2 matter: Mechanics and Stealth. Rest is optional as most choices lead to similar results.

Search Reddit - there was a data mining with all skills, stats, classes etc checks.

Thiefs puddy is something I always have a few of for mechanics. Food items can help you hit key attribute checks.

18 ? you "need" 20 int for read something (but they are a way for skip this check). and for the secondary thing, i guess is 20 in diplomatic for the moment when you go back to the quenn after the "big problem hiden in the temple of water" (no spoil)

You can't change companion attributes aside from boosting them with items.

As for skills they are all relevant for scripts and dialog options which I find cool and kinda wished it worked like attribute (i.e. you can't modify it and have to RP all the way with your character) and also have them or all have similar bonus or none of them give any. Athletics and mechanics are so much more useful outside of dialogs.

And the method to skip it is right there and easily accessible. But it was more satisfying to do it with my character.

The highest checks I remember were with mechanics in the place with the many traps. I could not detect a couple with perception 17, and a mechanics skill of 16 was not quite enough on a few of them.

There's a mechanics 19 check.
