TBH I am trying to choose between, poe2 pfk and dos2 (or some other RPG).
POE2 has the best artstyle and graphics.
DOS2 seems to have good gameplay (minus the RNG /diablo loot and stuff)
and PFK sounds somewhere in between.
Not sure how good the story, characters and companions are on all 3 (sounds rather below average from all my research and talking to players).
I'm very open minded but I need good plot, story drive, premise, interesting setting and world, great writing and great characters and companions - to fully enjoy a game and feel motivated to keep playing.
And it is still horrible, they patched in couple of dialogues but critical path is still 3 quests long with all major events represented by pictures with badly written and badly voiced text being read to you.
Game has only 7 companions with tiny personal quests and roster is very... inclusive. Be preprepared to tons of "snarky" sex comments. And couple of companions is utterly cringeworthy (depends on taste).
On pros side setting is nice, world is beautiful, some secondary quests has genuinely good writing and subplots. And 1st and 3rd DLC are good enough to compensate for main game shortcomings.
Never played DoS2, but P:K for me is much better game with 5x longer main story with real C&C, proper dungeons and 3x more companion content.
Pathfinder clunky RNG and unpatchable classes ruined P:K for me.
Sounds exactly like POE1 only worsened and even more over-done. (Seriously every freaking companion is cynical and snarky as hell).
Thank you for the analysis.
Main story, writing and Characters sounds rather terrible. Huge turn off for me.
I agree that visually POE2 looks like the best CRPG to date. The environment seem unique and well drawn and the graphics upgrade is massive (however I hear the performance optimization is even worse now - Unity is a terrible engine).
Are these DLCs connected and/or complete / fix the main story?
White March felt mostly seperated in the last game.
Thank you. So what I gathered so far is true... I hear that a lot.
Unfortunately an RPG with bad characters and story to me - is like an Action Game with bad combat and controls.
Deadfire is definitely prettiest game from all nu-RPG, but whether it will run well, or even decently is always big question.
Even with 1,5k+ $-worth rig there is always a chance to end up with 15 fps in some combat encounters after couple hours of play. P:K is not so innocent here too, both games have similar Unity Engine implementation and random hardware problems.
I appreciate this game most for combat, itemisation and class systems, but I am a kind of player who could kick out most annoying companions and enjoy adventure (with fair amount of text skipping) with mercs.
Of what you're looking for in an Rpg, it's either this or pathfinder that you want. Dos 2 doesn't have any of those things. Dialogue is almost non existent in dos 2, especially from you (it's all like "tell the guy that he's a ♥♥♥♥" or "ask him for the location of the objective" for your dialogue options), there's very little story substance, and it's mostly just a goofy fun combat Rpg with a hub town surrounded by generic side quests.
I haven't played pathfinder though, but I heard its more in this style of game, but I also heard the game isn't "complete" yet but keeps getting updated into a more playable state.
The dlc are all connected to the main game, one dlc even offers an alternative ending for the main story of the game. Though one dlc is less story focused, and mostly just arena fights with unique mechanics. The other two dlc are amazing though.
Together with Teheku and Serafen recounting their sexual adventures in all possible positions and combinations every time they open mouths it makes long-lasting impression.
Add to it strong patriotic women aka Pallegina + Maya for 5/7 possible companions.
Cover it with generous layer of writer's attempts to appear smart and funny (not very successful) and result would take very special taste to genuinely enjoy this mix.
Think I might skip POE2 altogether.
Find my review on my profile. POE2 is not worth it for the story. You play it if you enjoy RTWP combat. It's the most liked negative review on steam.
