Is Betrayal in Antara is broken?

I know the GOG version is broken so I wonder if the Steam version is the same

Did you got to chapter 4, the GOG version crashes at chapter 4 (for everyone, not just me). I'll play it and we'll see! but first : Betrayal at Krondor!!!!

i played Antara before on a CD,so just checked if it work here so no clue about that crash, sorry

If you come to a video cut before continuing chap. 4, press 'ESC" because the video may be causing the crash. I know that the Introduction video crashes the game at the begining when I started playing. I have to "ESC" to start playing and no matter what settings I try, the game video still crashes the game.

But it works if you hit ESC? Don't want to play this game 100% completion style only to end up not getting passed chapter 4 =P.

Does the Steam version of Antara run without Steam (after it's done downloading / installing)? Because I'm thinking about trying a VM with Windows 95 or 98 for compatibility, and the Steam client doesn't support these older Windows versions.

IIRC correctly Antara came out before w95 and was written for windows 3.1, which is 16 bit windows so hopefully your vm has a mode for that.

Well, Antara seems like a good game, but for me it seems to be half broken. After every fight I have to jump through a series of hoops to get to the next fight without the game crashing. Even then, if I try to quicksave it will crash outright. Doing my best to hang on though.

to get the game to run on disk you just download

and then you can install it on windows 10 or whatever. seems to run fine, but I haven't gotten to chapter 4 or watever.
